Schwarber with his 3rd HR of the night to give Philly the lead...there is no one in our lineup right that capable of being that big when needed.
 
Does that clinch the CYA for Sale? Now 16-3 with a 2.46 ERA. A ridiculous 2.01 FIP. He's passed Cease again in K's so he's the triple crown guy at the moment.His fWAR will probablly get to 6 when it updates tomorrow.
 
If we make the playoffs I don't want to see Soler in the field. Like, at all. Our strength is pitching. He is more likely to screw one of our pitchers than he is to screw the other teams pitchers at the plate. I wish we had a good defender to our in his place but all our options are average at best. We need to just use Soler as a PH in a key spot in the game when one of our various scrubs come up to bat with runners on base.

When I mentioned something about this when Riley got hit by the Phillies pitcher and the night before that d'Arnaud everyone sort of pooh poohed the idea. I just saw this interview. I was upset when Riley got hit and then on down to d'Arnaud, Harris and now this. I feel vindicated for my thoughts .

We do have a good defender in Kelenic . But he's a leftie and doesn't fit that mode of coaching of leftie/rightie pitching. Plus, he can't hit. I agree with you about our pitching being our strength and then losing a game because of using a known poor defender is indefensible.

People pooh poohed the fact that you thought it was intentional when it clearly wasn't.

An easy solution seems to be go back to the previous rules regarding sticky stuff so that pitchers have better control over their pitches. Also start fining/suspending pitchers for hit batsman. Maybe they get a little leeway in that category (maybe 1 HB allowed per 100 hitters faced). Or maybe require the pitcher to exit the game if the batter has to exit the game due to being hit.

Certainly if you are averaging a hit batter every start (or even every 2 starts) there needs to be some accountability there.

Don’t agree with that.

The Angel’s pitcher did intentionally do that to d’Arnaud and Riley.

Here’s why:

That pitcher throwing 95-100 up and in knows he may not have control of that ball. He may say “I didn’t know it was going high and in”. It was an accident, it was unintentional. Any pitcher knows he is not ever in control completely of his pitches. So, considering the pitcher was throwing 95-100 up and in is doing it on purpose.

That’s like the drunk driver who goes to court and says ‘it was an accident. I was driving drunk but I didn’t mean to cause that accident and hurt someone even though I was speeding or swervng. It was unintentional, it was an accident”. NOT...the jury finds him guilty.

Those pitchers are guilty of throwing those pitches intentionally. They should be punished in some way.

How about a pitcher goes on the DL for the same amount of time as the person they injured.

No, he didn't. And it's not even remotely close. Intentionally hitting a batter literally means intent. Not accidental.

Even in your dumb scenario of a drunk driver, the laws and penalties are vastly different if he accidentally hits someone vs intentionally running someone down with his vehicle.
