Why do you think ESPN did not fight to have the rights or want them?

Basketball is popular with EVERYONE. Its basically the second most popular sport worldwide after soccer.

Hockey is doing better than they have in the past but the NBA playoffs which have been utterly amazing are blowing them away.
 
Actually not to toot my own horn here but tennis and probably cricket are 2nd most popular after futbol. Basketball has risen quick because of Yao and China.

Soccer and Cricket are more popular than basketball. I guess EVERYONE loves them and they are more entertaining than basketball!

Hockey playoffs have been amazing this year. I;ve hardly watched any baskets except a couple Wizards games.

I don't disagree with this.

But, basically nobody watches hockey. The ratings are still in the tank and they have actually improved.

Basketball is so much more entertaining its not een worth discussing. Not only does the US agree but the world resoundingly agrees.

its amazing how far the Pacers have fallen. Good for the Hawks. I hope they win.

You do realize this man was about to be granted an award by the NAACP and that he hired one of 2 black GM's at a time when black people were not even being considered for general manager positions right?

I'm not saying he isn't a racist but lets not make him out to be the worst person that has ever lived.

Because he made some racist remarks to his gold digger, plastic faced girlfriend in a private conversation? This whole thing is ridiculous. It's just ESPN and the rest of the news media blowing **** way out of proportion to make you feel like you should be completely flabbergasted that an old ass white guy is racist. I mean what a shocker that is. I have never in my life met, nor heard of, an old white guy being racist. Donald Sterling is the first of his kind. A pioneer of sorts. Absolutely one of a kind.

Its such a sham. Now this guy is going to be forced out of the league because of this crap. I'm sure all these other owners aren't racist either.

The double standards is what gets me. I bet a large portion of the black players in the nba are racist against white people but that doens't matter one bit.
 
What is interesting is the guy never really says he hates black people (that I know of). It seemed to me he was concerned with what other people thought of him (sponsors/old white rich friends/ etc.) and his girlfriend associating with black people more than he was really anti-black people. THen when the gold digger pushes the issue, he's simply trying to make a point.

He could very well be racist, I have no idea. I live in the South, I know plenty of old white racist people. I know plenty of racist black people. Guess what, it out there! I don't think anyone should be fired or kicked out of the league for their personal beliefs. But, unfortunately, the liberal media run this world nowadays.

If extremely racist things came out of their mouths and they were caught, yes it would matter.
Assuming racism on anyone? That doesn't fly.
 
That said, I'm not of the belief he should lose his team or anything .He is the rightful owner. But, when you say something so asinine, when black people are what drives your product...there are going to be repercussions. Should the black people playing for him not be upset about this?
 
Sterling is so awful that he pays a black coach among the highest salaries in the sport plus giving up a first round pick for him.

Clearly he hates black people so much that he denies them fair opportunities.
