NY City Mayoral Race

If Adams never said anything he would have been the loser. There still needs to be a through explanation as to what happened and how it happened. While they are at it do a full forensic audit to confirm results.

The problem with Adams is he is an ethically-challenged machine politician with certain demagogic characteristics.
he turned out to be somewhat more brazen than i expected

he also surrounded himself with an um interesting cast of characters

You mean he is a politician?

Certain politicians are held 'accountable' for reasons that have nothing to do with ethics.

BL feeling the need to stroke his ego about a NY politician being indicted is interesting. Almost like he's begging for the props for correctly calling something in real time.

Maybe 10+ years of disastrous de Blasio and Adams will make NYC wake up and vote for another party? Because it’s pretty undeniable the 20 years prior rule by R & I were better for the city.

It was odd but maybe not entirely surprising that DeBlasio quietly supported Adams in the primary. There is room in NY politics for Republicans. Someone talented like Bloomberg or the previous incarnation of Giuliani can get the votes given NY Democrats' tendency to nominate hacks and crooks.

About Eric Adams, the best thing about him is that he appears to be genuinely committed to police reform. As an ex-cop, he is better positioned than anyone else in the race to deliver on it in a meaningful way. Shades of Nixon to China.

Continuing with the Nixon parallel, he is a crook and prone to fits of paranoia. There is a mini scandal at the moment having to do with his seeming lack of a home. The property he lists on some forms appears to be rented to someone else. There is a good chance he is earning income on that property but not reporting the income and paying taxes on it. Might seem to some to be a minor thing. But multiply it by 20 and you get an idea of how he has been cutting corners for most of his adult life.

He is also close to a certain class of developer, the same cesspool from which sprang one of our recent presidents. Proximity to that class of developer is usually not a good thing in a New York politician.

The last thing I'll say is that Eric Adams appears to have been a Republican at an earlier point in his life. That counts as a positive in my book. For a black man in a predominantly liberal city like New York that says something about his independence of mind. Now he downplays that because of course it has mainly downside politically.

bump for ego gratification

but i think i was wrong about his commitment to police reform

Being the first sitting NYC mayor to be indicted is an impressive feat, although probably undeserved. Kind of like how Mariano Rivera being the first player unanimously inducted into the HOF is undeserved in the sense that so many before him should’ve also been voted in unanimously.

This guys on fire lately

Does bumping a relatively irrelevant topic, thereby distracting us all from the very real fact that right now Donald Trump is mobilizing supporters against Haitian and other dark skinned migrants, make the bumper not sufficiently anti-Trump? Or maybe even MAGA adjacent?!

Asking for a friend.

Oui. As they say in creole.

Nevertheless, I will note one can talk about the weather without ignoring the fact that the ticket of a major party has been spending weeks now trying to stir up a pogrom against Haitian and other dark-skinned immigrants.

somewhat questionable usage of the word epistemology but otherwise a solid post

Weather / NYC mayoral corruption = yes

Tariffs / price controls / school choice / current (D) candidate’s lack of any firm policy / prior (D) candidate’s lack of mental acuity = no

Just want to make sure before an unwanted red hat appears on anyone’s head

Actually, if my memory serves me correctly, you did comment on the attempts to stir a pogrom against the Haitians. Your recommendation seemed to be to move on for lack of effectiveness. Of course, I may not be recalling correctly. Feel free to set the record straignt.

It’s stupid and a waste of everyone’s time. And yes, an ineffective, counterproductive way to make a case against immigration. I can use bold, caps, or exclamation points, if that’s insufficiently anti-Trump.

I would use a different set of words than ineffective and counterproductive or even stupid. Though he is stupid.

A chacun son gout. Not sure they say this in creole. But maybe.

Would you like me to repost the video of the spokesman of the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office admitting the Trump cases were a sham?
