First off the CCP is not a legitimate government. If theres anything we could do to free China without a war I would be all for it. Nothing in libertarianism says respect dictators rights to dictate their country. Dont send our soldiers to die for them but it is in our strategic national interest to combat the CCP. Even little thethe would agree with that.

Second, no one said anything about boots on the ground unless you mean scientists. I absolutely want trustworthy people in China to help give us an early warning system for pandemics coming out of there. Your insane if you dont want that after Covid.

China purposely developed the virus, and there is a decent chance it was being developed as biological weapon, as there was no legitimate reason for them to hide this information from the rest of the world, unless they didn't want people to know about it. And while it's release MAY have been accidental, there is plenty of evidence to suggest it was a controlled release, most likely to quell the political unrest in Hong Kong in 2019 that was gaining momentum.

We dont dictate how the CCP rules its people but we can influence them. They need us more than we need them. Everyone knows China is not trustworthy. Well everyone but the Teflon Don. He was calling the virus a hoax while the media was begging him to do something. Then when he couldnt deny it anymore he tried to rewrite history saying he was concerned before anyone else. No where anywhere did I say we should have sanctioned China to get them to tell the truth. Thats retarded. I said we should have used the threat of halting all exports from China if they obstructed our own peoples investigation into what was going on. I dont care what Xi says he should be assumed to be lying and thats not specific to Covid. The problem I have is the President at the time was telling us Covid was a hoax and that Xi Jiping was doing such a great job handling it and was very transparent about it. A person like that has no business being President I dont care what party they are.

There is a lot of research on potential viruses. They try to find cures and vaccines just in case they are ever faced with a pandemic by those viruses. Lets play devils advocate and assume it was developed and released a bioweapon. They wouldnt release it on their own country and just hope it gets to whoever they want. They could have infected Trump when he visited China. They could have dropped the virus in the heart of NYC. If it was a bioweapon I am sure Xi and the CCP would have had vaccines and medicines for it before releasing it. China certainly doesnt need a virus to quell political unrest.

Nothing we have done in the last 100+ years has had any major affect in how China operates domestically or internationally. Did Trump downplay the virus? Sure. Maybe he was trying to delay a global panic, which ultimately ensued anyways. People also fell victim to the fear porn being pushed by the media and that made the virus a lot worse than it really was. I mean it was a virus with roughly a 99% survival rate after all, and higher rates in wealthy nations like the US. Was it bad? For sure. But the media would have had you believe it was worse than Spanish Flu (it wasn't anywhere near that bad).

And unlike thethe, I don't believe they released a virus to destroy the US government. I do think it's entirely POSSIBLE (not probable, mind you) that they released a virus on their own people to quell political unrest.. And it wouldn't exactly the first time the Chinese government has attacked it's own people.

I think the more probable scenario is that they were illegally engineering biological weapons and one happened to be far more contagious than they had anticipated and it leaked out. I think their failure to alert the rest of the world is a clear signal they didn't want anyone to know how it was created.

Does allowing independent international scientists investigate the situation count as a major effect to China? Because that's what I proposed should have been demanded with stoping imports/travel from China as the leverage. I don't doubt China says no. That's the point we should have shut down travel with China. I don't know why you feel the need to frame it as if everything is dependent on China agreeing.

Don't make stupid excuses for Trump. Panic was caused by him doing nothing while everyone knew something was wrong. That's what scared people. No one knew how bad it was going to be so how it can be the medias fault is beyond me. 99% survival rate for a virus that infectious is not good argument you think it is. With people being able to get it and spread it before they even knew we had it meant we were all going to get it at some point. 1 out of 100 people dying is pretty bad.

I’ll have to own that one. Seemed plausible in the early days of the pandemic. Diseases transmitting from animals to humans are pretty common. Idk when I flipped from thinking that scenario was more likely than a lab leak, but I’d certainly put the majority of my chips on the lab leak based on available information.

I don't think its that common for a NEW disease or virus to jump, usually that takes a few hundred years of evolution ?

But yeah we got deer sick with the Rona too. Wild stuff.

If it's believed that Trump people stole the election we will notice all of the judges will now find standing for those wanting to investigate it. lol
 
Early on it was reasonble to believe that and many other things regarding COVID. Once we were past April you really saw who are the mindless idiots and who are the critical thinkers.

Is every country in the world going to do that? Because if not, it's a moot point. Italy was the first major affected region after China. There was no realistic option to stop the spread of a highly contagious virus.

And every major country ended up about as well off as America, so are you calling out every other country too? And Sweden arguably did better than anyone with ZERO lockdown or mandates. But sure, Trump caused all of it.....

And again, there is an entire damn history of China to know that they give zero ****s when it comes to quelling riots and political dissent with mass murder. The Boxer Rebellion was literally just a century ago. Whatever you think "makes sense" is irrelevant. A communist regime that sees their power being threatened will take whatever action necessary to stay in charge.
