Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Instead of pouting and shaking fists at the sky , I encourage everyone to listen to JD Vance on Rogan.

Really well spoken guy that can give you an idea of what’s actually going on with their views and ideas instead of what WaPo tells it is

It may surprise you

Sure sure - we will just play by the rules while your side breaks every norm in the book after they steal election. Screw you and your fake outrage. We win and will continue to win and fix this country.

There will be no care for illegals. All incentives will be stripped and self deportation will begin en masse.

I’m not sure what portion of my post could be interpreted as outrage. I’ve been pretty un-outraged about all this. But I do still care about the well-being of these people. So even if the country decides that strict immigration laws are necessary and good, I’d rather there not be obvious incentives for migrants to turn to home births and risk the death of these young women and their children.

My issue with JD Vance isn’t how articulate or competent he is. It’s his views on social issues I find important and the fact that he’s so brazenly willing to change his views to support his ambitions. The latter isn’t any different than say Biden or Harris, but I’m sure I’d deeply dislike them just as much too if they didn’t support more of my views on social issues, rather than the mere broad dislike I feel for them today.

Like I said you may want to listen instead of assuming you know what’s been told to you is true

Hint* it isn’t

I’ll give it a listen, but I’m 100% not going to just take Vance’s word at face value if he says he’s being misconstrued.

Couldn't help but chuckle.

The good news for MAGA is that Wiles despises RDS, so they won't be burdened with his competence in this admin

Vance has really raised his likeability factor immensely since being selected for VP, with his favorability now being at an all time high (it was 20% the week he was selected). And the more people see him, I think the more popular he gets. He is extremely impressive on the fly and he is able to support his policy stances very well, along with seemingly having Trump's uncanny ability at delivering one-liners.

Sure, the cat lady thing wasn't his best moment. Of course, that was 3 years ago and it seemed more like throw away line in a fairly insignificant interview that I am sure he didn't think would gain the notoriety that it did.

The campaign to portray him as “weird” was a hilarious backfire. I find plenty to disagree with when it comes to Vance’s ideas, but between him, Trump, Harris, and Walz, he comes across as the most normal of the four by a mile.

Oh boy would he

The "weird" thing was one of the most bizarre campaigns I've ever seen, coming from the party of total freaks

Great start here!

I believe she worked for McCain, and Romney. She also worked for DeSantis, until he fired her

Take that for what's it worth.

Lindsey Graham and Jeb Bush are big fans, though

I don’t disagree much with your explanation. I think he’s really smart (I was very impressed with his debate). He performed well going into enemy territory. He’s extremely capable. But saying he raised his favorability from 20% (actually 25%) is quite the cherry pick considering nearly half of respondents had no opinion. His net unfavorability went from -4% to -7%.

FWIW, I don’t think favorability ratings mean much anymore. People vote for people they don’t like all the time. Walz was by far the most likable candidate and he’ll be completely forgotten about in 6 months.

There were a couple videos that made him come across as awkward (the donut shop clip was uncomfortable to say the least). But in interview settings, he came across well.

The couch sex rumor felt extremely manufactured. You could feel the social engineering occurring in real time.

I don't think I'd do well if I was.instructed to go into a doughnut shop with cameras, expecting it to be a friendly environment, and the workers just absolutely hating me

For sure. Same for me. But we’re not politicians.

Trump clearly knows how to connect with people. He’s preternaturally gifted at working a crowd. Bill Clinton was probably the best politician ever at working a rope line. Even Biden in old age is good at this - that clip of him wearing the MAGA hat in that fire station showed how he endeared himself to all those Trump supporters.

I don’t think Vance can do that. I don’t think that makes him “weird”, but It’s why I don’t think he’ll end up the nominee in 2028.

Agreed. I was not a big fan of Vance when he was selected. I didn't hate the pick, but I just ambivalent. Now that I have seen him more, I am very impressed.

Nothing you say is wrong. But we MUST get to a point in politics where we care about competence and intelligence more than we care about doughbut shop improv

Brother I wish that were true but you know that will NEVER happen.

This is a great clip from Vance and gives me some hope that Trump actually has a competent intelligent person in his ear
