Looking towards 2025

Looks like Holmes is going to get a shot to win a rotation spot, as per AA comments in recent DOB interview.

Bowman: Anthopoulos said the potential of exceeding the luxury threshold for a third straight year won't be viewed as a hinderance for the Braves. They're hoping Daysbel Hernandez proves to be a high-leverage guy next year and Grant Holmes might be used as a starter in 2025.

I'm guessing Atlanta signs Eovaldi, Buehler, etc. and Holmes becomes a hybrid spot-starter used to give players breathers. Or, he's solely a reliever if they don't add another guy.

It's great that he says they will spend, but on who? The 2 best positional fits were Soto and Adames, which obviously didn't happen.

So what's left? A bunch of 2-3 win OFers and aging TOR SPs? Not exactly exciting ideas.

A Crochet sign/extend is pretty much the only obvious impact move, but there's still time for AA to pull another rabbit from his hat.

He has the money to trade for Bellinger and basically just eat the money to keep from using any useful prospect in exchange for him.

I agree the Crochet trade and sign would be the biggest deal we could do for a pitcher. It all depends on Baldwin.

Curious to see what his market is going to look like. Given age and his somewhat being one-dimensional, he may be one of the last FAs standing and maybe can be had with a reasonable offer.

I hope all the people who **** on Olson this last year realize Santander is the switch hitting version of Olson. He is better than what we have but he is a serious risk to go Melvin on us. If he was just an average defender I would be okay with him but paying a bad defensive LF who is a low OBP hitter with all his value in Homers seems like a really bad investment. The only real positive I see with him is that he is a switch hitter with no big platoon split so he would make lineup construction easier. I dont know that a 3-4 year deal at around 20 mill per would be the worst thing in the world but more than that would be crazy. I dont see him being a good player at age 33 and beyond.

On the surface, not much. But AA didnt clear all that money for ****s and giggles. He'll make some moves, that no one is thinking of. Like Sale.

I understand the concerns, and the price tag was steep, but I really wish the Braves had gone out and gotten Adames. The fit seemed perfect, and it was a move that felt incredibly necessary.

Personally I wanted no part of Adames. If we were gonna pay for a SS, we should have ponied up for Bae or Correa. Adames is basically the same player as Bae.

I was in for keeping Swanson as well.. Sure you over pay for some of the offensive crap he brings.. but he brought life and fire to the team.. The team last year was so unenjoyable to watch.

Turning attention to a Crochet trade, this article is a great source of info: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/garrett-crochet-rumors-cubs-padres-yankees-red-sox-reds.html

They wanted one of Salas (FV 60) or De Vries (FV 50) from SD, but were rejected.

The Yankees refused to part with Jones (FV 55) at the deadline.

The Red Sox are apparently willing to listen on Mayer (FV 60), which has to put them at the top of the list.

The Cubs have Shaw and Caissie (both FV 50), are speculative fits.

Since the White Sox seem to be focusing on position prospects, the equivalent Braves prospects are Alvarez (FV 50) and Baldwin (FV 50). There's no way Baldwin has the same value as Alvarez, so if AA can get Crochet for Alvarez plus any of the pitching prospects, it would be a great get. I don't see Alvarez as anything more than a low end bench option that can't play SS.

If AA gets Sale and Crochet for Grissom and Nacho in consecutive years, then all past transgressions would be forgiven and I would even consider a full Hunter Biden pardon for anything bad in the future.

Sounds like the Mets are in the mix as well, and they'd have to give up at least the other Acuna plus more. If Boston has Mayer on the table, and it's from their side, i think they'd be the favorites. Depending what else is in the deal.

While I have a hard time believing Tucker is actually available, he's from FL, going into his age 28 season, and is the exact type of trade/extension candidate AA targets.

I would be much more excited to see Tucker than Bellinger. It just seems like he was always underappreciated in Houston for some reason...like he's a star that has to play 2nd fiddle to the Altuve/Bregman/Alvarez group despite being as good or better.
