Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

For all we know we tried to sign Eovaldi but the team he came from is always gonna have an advantage if they are serious about resigning him and he likes it there

Our farm is the best it’s been in like 2-4 years

Also have you seen these free agent deals? Thank god he’s not giving them out.

well maybe that is what FA cost now and we need to stop thinking it is 2020 again.

If Baseball wants teams to spend money, then they need to stop punishing them for spending.. #salaryFloor #SalaryCap

I don't think 3/75 for a pretty solid veteran pitcher with postseason experience would necessarily be ruining the future. At least it shouldn't be with as much money as this team is raking in.

Yeah, i would have done that Eovaldi deal. Maybe he wanted to stay in Texas, guess we'll never know.

Best player he's traded away is Contreras. No one else has really amounted to much. AA will eventually make a move or two, the AA haters are absolute bat**** insane right now.

Contreras wouldn’t have gotten a shot here like he has in Milwaukee. Snit would have split time between him and TDA just like he has Murphy. I suspect Murphy has a big year and that deal looks better than it did this year.

Murphy is a player that does better with more playing time. Always has. I think he'll do well, and the Murphy haters/AA haters will be quiet, but i'm sure they'll find something to complain about.

They no doubt will. Every teams fans do. AA is a top GM and I’m really glad we have him.

AA isn’t perfect, but I would place him in the discussion of the best GM in baseball, and all professional sports. He is elite, and anyone claiming otherwise can be ignored regarding all things sports related.

We can’t keep saying “oh that contract was overpriced” when every single contract has been overpriced. The FA deals tend to happen early, and late, with the peak bidding happening right now. If this is the new level of spending required for top FAs, then that’s the new reality. Claiming “oh I’m glad the Braves didn’t spend that” is just a defense mechanism to make themselves feel better.

basically what I said..

I like to rag AA on the MethHead trade, only because of how I was told in the thread that I was crazy to not like that trade and that Murph was clearly the best player in the deal. I was big on WC and really disliked it. Now the first half of the summer after the trade, I ate some crow because Murph was insane.. but it has been a brutal year and a half since... hopefully more playing time will help.. or a good stint of rehab.. don't know..

I do think AA is a bit tentative in the FA market as well. He seems to like the shorter, less risky deals. But I won't bitch too much about that really.

It's never been about the hate of Murphy. Most who hated the trade didn't crap on Murphy. They didn't want to trade Bill (Hand is up). And AA is not infallible no matter how much fanboys want to think so. He deserves credit and mostly benefit of the doubt. But he can be criticized without it being a hater thing.

Nobody is above criticism but nobody is gonna get it right all the time and as fans that’s what we want. And it’s not being a hater by saying I’m glad we didn’t sign any of these guys for what they got so far in FA. Volvo is the only possible one so far but I’d have rather it been 2 years instead of 3.

I've never said AA's perfect. I probably would have done the Eovaldi deal but guaranteeing him 3 years at 25 per is a bit pricy. But AA usually has something up his sleeve.

I'm with you for sure. I just laugh when people get bent out of shape if you question AA. He is a top GM for sure. But I'll be all over him if I don't like a move. But then again.....he don't give af what I think. I know he'll do something...what is it? Hmm...

I’m not sure anyone here actually liked trading Contreras. In fact, I remember most of us questioning trading from a position of strength to improve a position of strength, as well as getting a guy who was four years older and probably only lateral move with the bat at best.

That doesn’t mean Murphy isn’t a good player, however.

When AA gets a player in his head it usually consumes him until he gets them. He went after Crochet at the deadline and I have a feeling he is now to. It would be us, the Mets, the Red Sox and maybe the Jays after him. If he were to take on Benintendi that might go a long way to getting him but I’d hope not. 3/49 is what he is still owed. But he did take on a lot of money to get Kelenic so who knows.
