I’m a bit surprised we haven’t heard more over the last couple days about Walker Buehler. Wonder what the market is for him.

Probably wants to much. He may be the guy that settles for a 1 year deal at the end. There’s always that one guy.
The past few offseasons, there’ve been several guys. I’m betting Nick Pivetta and/or Sean Manea land in that group, especially with their QO penalty attachments.
On that subject: I still like the idea of picking up one of last season’s “those guys,” in Jordan Montgomery, as long as the Diamondbacks either pay him down or prospect-sweeten the full dump.
Boob says Atlanta was among the finalists for Crochet - Red Sox, Braves, Yankees, Reds, Phillies
As long as Baldwin or Caminiti weren't part of the package, I would have been ok with it.

most deals for guys like him will include 5 or more. That's a lot of finalists.
I highly doubt we were even considered in this at all without at least one of them in an offer.
I find the prospect haul to be a bit underwhelming. Teel is a top prospect but top catching prospects tend to have a hard transition to the majors. And then theres Montgomery who is a college bat yet to play pro ball. I think I have made my feelings on college draft prospects pretty clear in that they suck. I wont be surprised if the best player in the deal is Meidroth.
Based on that trade I would estimate a similar offer by us would have been Baldwin, Cam, Waldrep and Nacho. And thats just similar, the White Sox probably still take the Red Sox offer over ours.
That hypothetical Braves offer actually beats the Red Sox offer by a decent bit, at least going off of FV.
Baldwin and Teel have roughly the exact same value as 50 FV prospects. Cam and Montgomery are also similarly valued prospects as both were 1st round picks just 5 months ago. Maybe Montgomery has a bit more value as he was drafted earlier and is a position player. But for all intents and purposes, this is a wash.
Alvarez is currently rated a 45 FV compared to Meidroth being a 40 FV. Obviously I know nothing about Meidroth so maybe the ChiSox would prefer him better for some reason, but based on prospect rankings, Alvarez is a little above Meidroth. The real difference though, is Waldrep compared to Gonzalez. Waldrep is a 50 FV prospect and a former 1st round pick a little over a year ago, while Gonzalez is basically a throw in level pitcher as a 40+ FV pitcher.
With Snit here will Baldwin be used properly? What to do with Murphy? If Baldwin comes out and shows he legit I guess he takes the TDA spot and we are back in a platoon where neither guy can reach their full potential. Cam I would hate to lose the most bc if he can be that next big pitcher then he can take a spot when Sale is gone possibly. I like AA’s strategy of drafting pitching in the draft and getting high end offense on the international front. Sign Buehler to show he’s healthy and find the best LF’er you can without using Baldwin (unless it’s Tucker and you can extend him).
That's pretty unfair. None of our catchers have started more than 113 games since McCann caught 121 games in 2012. And since AA has been here, it's pretty much been an even split every year. We've never had an issue with this before, but now all of sudden it's an issue? I don't buy it.
People complain about the WC trade but he would never have gotten a shot her like he has in Milwaukee. He would have played 3 days a week just like Murphy has. Guys need consistent at bats unless you get them strictly to be a platoon player. I get that catchers need rest but spend the money and resources on something else if you aren’t gonna let them max out their talent. We could have used WC on a different position to upgrade besides a lateral move and it didn’t work. I think AA let TDA go to keep Snit from using him so often.
