Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Everything I read about Kim suggests he is a low end regular whose defense may be questionable at SS. As a FV 40 guy on FG he Seems to project more as a high end utility piece than someone who will take over for Arcia.

If this insider is “9 of 10 excited” for him, I’m thinking I can safely ignore his takes from now on.

He said it wasn't him

As enscheff said above. A 9 out of 10 excited for Scott would be a pretty bad take. Scott would be a plus addition but a reliever is a reliever afterall. Those can be had at the deadline to shore up a pen for the playoff push. Anything less than a starting LF, SS, or #3 SP is a meh move for this roster.

Scott would be a big addition. We just lost our setup man for the year and Iglesias and Johnson are both FA after the season so getting Scott now would save him some trouble next offseason. We saw what a power bullpen would do in 21. Could this be a trade instead of a FA signing?

releivers are the most volatile player around. unless they are a shutdown closer I wouldn't consider any of them big moves during an offseason.

I’m hoping it’s Bo Bichette. He would make the biggest offensive impact of anybody we could get imo. Last year was a fluke.

I think Scott is pretty close to being that shutdown type of guy.. his biggest problem (as with many relievers) are the walks. But that hasn't hurt him since getting out of Baltimore.. his Fip seems to be good over his last 3 seasons.. He has also increased his velo slightly over the years while maintaining his spin rate. He would definitely be a big get for this team.. Not saying LF/SS and another starter is not important.. but Scott would be a nice win to end 2024..

Ahhh gotcha. Not many guy to get excited about to be a 9.

From what I read in the comments on his tweets, he shot down every notable guess with the exception of Scott and Verlander. I don't think he shut down Hoffman, either, but not sure anyone guessed that one.

I’m gonna say it’s Tanner Scott

I'd be okay with him but i dont know how that would be a 9.5/10. We already have Lee, Bummer from the left side, plus Daysbel, Iggy, Pierce Johnson, some others, plus Jimenez will be back at some point. Would be a big addition but LF, SP and SS are way bigger needs. I dont think we'd be done by any means but it would help with next year since Iggy/Pierce Johnson are FA's.

I'm ok with Verlander replacing Morton I guess. I think I might just rather have Morton back though, depending on the price.

Verlander and scherzer, come on down. Maybe we can talk Morton into coming back on a small deal... we will beat those whipersnappers with our experience

If the price and years are the same I'd prefer Morton. Verlander seems to be on a much sharper decline right now and might not even be a #5 next year. Honestly surprsied he hasn't retired.

How could anybody be excited about a 41 year old, very likely negative WAR, Justin Verlander?

This can't be real.

He's been right and wrong about different things.

I think it's a young kid who pieces together things he sees from around the internet.

Not a legitimate insider per se.

He is going to catch a years worth of suckers on this troll line.. perfectly dropped I must say.. the fanbase is desperate for AA to make a move so throw the nugget out and hook a bunch.
