Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

yeah, I was about to comment on that.. .I can't remember what factors are used.. I would probably trust Fwar for a pitcher more because I think they use xstats more.. so I will say Gray is closer to Fried than Mort..

Funny how different those two projected stats are for pitchers.

It's because bWAR is a horrible projection stat. It's more useful for what actually happened.

While fWAR is clearly superior for hitters, I feel like neither WAR is good for pitchers. I like to look at xwOBA, and then figuring if the guy will throw 150+ IP.

For a team like the Braves who are almost guaranteed to play in October, a single playoff start from a .280 xwOBA pitcher is likely more valuable than 100 innings over the summer from a .320 xwOBA guy. This is why Sale is so valuable…and why it was such a gut punch that he suddenly couldn’t pitch in October. Strider plus Sale at 100% in October can carry the Braves to a title.

SS isn’t a huge priority imo LF and SP are. We definitely need 1 really good SP. if Acuma were 100% to start the season then Rzaor Ramon would be fine to platoon with Kelenic.

Anderson is out of options. Elder has 2 remaining.

Makes me nauseous thinking about either one of them being the favorite going into ST. If that is the case then I will have to back off my stance on AA bc that would be a huge failure, especially in the middle of a contention window.

Time to start the full court press with 39 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a good day for AA to make a real major league addition to this team. We’ll see how long this goes of me having to do this every day.

So what's our rotation looking like now? I think AA said Strider wouldn't quite be ready by opening day, so we've got, what, Sale / Schwellenbach / Lopez / AJSS / Elder?

I have been looking at the Cubs and I wonder if we match up with them. Their OF is full and they shove several good OF prospects on the high minors..Would AJSS and Waldrep for Cassie and Alcantara make sense? They need pitching. We need depth in our OF. None of the ,4 players is guaranteed to be great this year but all have potential. Cassie can play the corner spots and Alcantara can play all 3 OF spots. It would really flip the script on our farm system with those two plus Nacho and Baldwin all being close to MLB ready. We have more pitching coming down the line. Make that trade sign someone like Scherzer and a premium reliever and I think we are good to go.
