How does Walker/Fletcher still have a job?

I'm not convinced a hitting coach really has that much to do with offensive production. That being said, at this point it couldn't hurt to switch something up. It definitely would be nice seeing Chipper in the dugout everyday.

You see, I disagree with this. Anything that can be done poorly can be done well. By all accounts Don Baylor was a good hitting coach, and to be honest i don't remember so many guys looking as lost under Pendleton as they do now.

Yeah, Keith I hear you Pendleton did have some pretty talented teams to work with, but I don't think the current team lacks talent. I mean BJ was a high draft pick for a reason and had some decent years in Tampa Bay. I don't know just of late it seems like Atlanta is a place where good hitters go to die.

It does seem that way. For all of the pitchers that have come to Atlanta and reinvented themselves over the years, there are very few (if any) examples of hitters doing the same. We're talking about JD Drew ... Julio Franco ... ???

Idk I remember a ton of people complaining about TP too. When it comes down to it, hitters have to hit. I don't think Ted Williams could get BJ or Uggla to start hitting.

Okay, then tell us the job definition of a hitting coach. Then tell us that he is doing his jobs. When the desired results aren't there, you let them go and find someone else. If they want to give free money away, there are plenty of people on this board that will do that job for peanuts.

Well the people that complained about TP were dumb. The Braves always had good offensive numbers while he was the hitting coach.

That said the Braves were 10th in the NL in WRC+ of 91 with Parrish as the hitting coach. And the Braves have been at at a WRC+ of 97 from 2012-2013 which has been 5th best in the NL.

Oh I agree. Walker and Fletcher clearly aren't doing a good job. All I'm saying is if we bring in someone new I'm not expecting him to magically turn things around. I believe we'd still be a streaky, pull happy team. Not saying a move shouldn't be made, I just wouldn't expect it to do a whole lot.

Yeah, never understood the TP hate. He wasn't great but not terrible either. I think a lot of it had to do with the frustrations of watching Andruw have a bad approach at the plate, which looking back he was who he was, and his decline along with Frenchy falling off a cliff and not living up to the hype.

If one wants to discredit the importance of a hitting coach I'll give an example.

Don Baylor in 99, was known as a great hitting coach and credited for changing Galarraga in Colorado and making him one of the most feared sluggers in the game. During his one year here, he changed Chippers approach from the right side cumulating in his MVP. Andruw made great strides IMO that year as well even though it didn't necessarily translate into numbers, but he was on the right path. Klesko had his best season in a few years. He got career production out of Gerald Williams. Javy was having a great season before the injury.

Under the tutelage of Rettenmynd, after 1 season Andruw reverted back to free swinging ways, and Javy seemingly forgot how to hit. Our overall team approach was horrible, and we scored less runs despite having a better more complete lineup. Plus Reggie Sanders had a slump that he could not break out of.

He's a HITTING coach. If he doesn't affect the bats, find him something else to do. Or don't have one at all. Mark Richt doesn't have a special teams coach and that works out great for them.
