Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

The only explanation for the complete gridlock in the second half of the offseason has to be the Sasaki decision. It’s incredibly frustrating when a single FA holds up the entire offseason, but that must be what’s happening right now.

I agree. I’m not sure if Atlanta has anything in the works there (it seems unlikely), but I wonder if they have some moves planned around it. Alternatively, they may not be able to make moves until Roki’s decision clears things up. But I do think you’re right.

He is able to sign this week.

It will be over soon.

Let's make a $200 bet on it... I under 120 wins, you're over. 120 is a push. Winner picks the charity the loser pays to. You on?

No team has ever won 120, so it would be a stupid bet.

I didn't say I thought they would win that many, nor that I want them to (I'm obviously a Braves fan)

I think that is their goal- to have a dynasty and break the Ws record.

I think they get around 110.

I have a feeling we'll see a flurry of moves come the 15th. Our 40 man is full so if we wait till the 15th to make a deal for guys that are on the 40 man we won't have to release anybody. I think we have verbal deals in place but are waiting till Wednesday. I think we'll see a Scott deal and a trade for a SP.

Yeah, Roki's probably holding up some moves.

I think all the teams know who he is going to. They can’t make anything official but it has probably already been agreed upon and all teams notified. And if you have any brain cells still firing, you all should know he is going to as well. It has been a done deal since show-hey signed.

Probably but LA has Snell, Ohtani, Glasnow, Miller, Gonsolin, May, Yamamoto among others in their rotation mix. Sasaki faces a ton of competition to pitch with them. I know you need more than 5 guys but if Sasaki wants to pitch early on, not sure LA is the spot but that has been the rumor for a year.

I could see them making Ohtani a closer. Would potentially have to get creative with their substitutions if he blew a save and the game went into extras, maybe stick him at first and move Freddie to third for those scenarios.

The Shohei rule was implemented specifically for this scenario. It allows the DH to remain in the lineup as a DH if he was removed as the pitcher.

Bowman with our explanation on not signing Hoffman:

Per a source, Jeff Hoffman had a potential deal that was nixed when he failed a physical with the Braves’ medical staff. Hoffman also reportedly failed a physical with the Orioles before signing with the Blue Jays
