Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

This is why you don’t let Minter go for 11 million when you need 1-2 more relievers and at least one of them being a LHP.

Plus, Minter is better than Scott anyway.

DOB just spoke to AA.

AA has been tremendously worried about his TikTok followers and now that it is back he is ready to get the offseason moving.

It’s amusing to me that some of you have deluded yourselves into still thinking the moves are coming.

On a totally serious note, you think AA is going to go into the season with clear holes at SP, RP and LF? you could rationalize having one in the OF with Ronnie coming back, but it's more delusional to think that the guy who's known for wheeling and dealing at an ungodly rate would do nothing. Oh well, we shall see.

It would absolutely make sense that he’d address some of those needs, but it’s January 19th and he’s done nothing but cut payroll. At some point he’s just not going to add anyone.

It doesn't seem logical to suggest that an aggressive GM whose team is in the middle of its contention window would suddenly stop making moves. I think his usual wait-and-see approach simply didn’t work this time because he misjudged the market, which tuned out to be much more aggressive than usual. While he's likely been exploring trade opportunities, any activity in that area has been much lower than normal. I think it's been a really unfortunate mix of a few things.

AA has t made a hard decision since the meth head trade. That one shook him I guess. We all love the Lopez and sale deals but those were easy moves when presented. Hardly any risk to long term future. He spent 30 moves to get a washed up Kelenic. I am not sure I am calling AA aggressive at this point. He has fallen in love with the lower risk moves.

I guess that can be debated if low risk moves are better.

I still predict a mid tier reliever. Yates level or less. Then go and see how the stars bounce back all while resting the lux tax.

Kim is still out for SS. He's a good defender that has nice OBP skills. He fits.

I'm starting to think AA finally gets scherzer. I actually would like this assuming he's healthy, and that he isn't too expensive.

Yates seems like a good target. He was just as good as Tanner Scott last season. Old guy, so shouldn't require many years and be too expensive.

Biggest need is still pitching (my opinion). I am hoping that they know something about AJSS, Waldrep, Ritchie and others that we don’t, and there is another Schwellenbach ready to break out.

We have also speculated that there will be some good players available without a chair when the music stops.

I know some of you are prone to panic, but AA’s history tells me the music hasn’t stopped yet, and the team will end up being very good.

Some moves will be made, and some guys will step up unexpectedly.

Sale was an easy move? If it was easy why didn't anybody else do it and get Sale for basically free? Give credit where credit is due. Yeah he's dragged ass this offseason but those moves had more of a chance at not working than it did working given Sales injury history.

Yes. Sale was an easy move. I am not saying AA didn’t pull some Vioodoo magic or gave the other gm a handy in the stall at the winter meetings. So how the Braves acquired him has nothing to do with the risk. I would love anyone to find me a single Braves player/fan that was upset with losing Grissom for Sale plus 10-15 million. That was about of an easy call as you can have in baseball. Same for Lopez. 10 million for a very good reliever that is easily fair value to below value. And that is t taking into account him as a starter.

AA didn’t make any risky moves last offseason and he isn’t going to make any this season. He might be realizing he painted himself into a corner that doesn’t leave him a lot of pivot room with all the expensive extensions and Murphy trade.

Man. This will come off as hating to the AA apologists, but this off-season has been complete ass. Maximizing assets has been meh, but I get that he got us a world series. However does he get a10 year reprieve for one world series? Fk that...I want one every year.

Now..no one is playing in the Dodgers hemisphere when it comes to salary. But we have seen evidence that some of the secured talent doesn't seem cost prohibitive if we're being told the truth. I don't care if you go all in and get rejected, but the pivot should be strong. I'm waiting on AA, but I think we're going to go in with what we got. And to me....that's meh.

It’s frustrating we didn’t get Scott. (More frustrating the Dodgers did.) He’s only the first post-Sasaki domino to fall though. (No one would’ve been happy giving Minter 11 mil. I’m not counting him.)

Fans are passionately trying to figure out if the Braves are going to spend money or not. You’re forgetting that AA has really never forced a deal while in Atlanta. It’s not a matter of whether or not AA is telling the truth about the money he has/hasn’t to spend. AA will only deal if he feels he’s won the deal. AA is all about value and stretching resources. He’ll fill out the roster with the players he thinks wins the talent/value formula. He also knows he doesn’t have to spend all of his money now. We’re panicking. He’s not.

Hang tight and find happiness with the solid international signing class our staff put together. I’m thankful we have leadership that looks long term as well as the short term. AA knows he’s in the contention window. Let him cook and look forward to a solid year. The offseason isn’t over. The date is late, but it’s still early. Good things are coming.

This is complete pollyanna nonsense.

It's been a horrendous offseason and unless something totally unforeseen occurs, the Braves have gotten worse while their rivals have gotten better.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest "good things are coming", and that may be the least ridiculous part of your post.
