Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Has someone confirmed that we offered him more than the Dodgers? Only number I've seen is the Cubs offered 4/66.

I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. The Braves were quick with the Hoffman stuff letting people know they tried but nothing on Scott yet. I have high hopes for Baldwin but Crochet would look good in the rotation right now.

Lockout and/or cap in 27 is 100 percent happening. Owners dont like this at all.

I don't know about a hard salary cap but there should at least be a hard deferral cap on contracts. Maybe like 20 percent max on a single contract and 10 percent max on the 40 man roster

Hard Cap needs to be done..... along with a hard floor... but if they are going to keep the Lux tax, then it needs to be way more balanced. Deferrals should be taxed at the length of the contract not the money. and the penalties should be loss of draft picks, tax threshold way higher and no international FA money for each year your team is over.

the way it is right now is like asking Musk to pay 25 million dollar fine to buy TikTok... He knows he will just make it back three fold on the revenue generated by it. and he can easily afford it if it flops.

It really helps the payroll situation when the biggest world-wide star is being paid $2M while allowing the team to rake in unprecedented revenue off his image.

It's really an unprecedented situation.

Ohtani is maybe the GOAT baseball player and he's right in his prime earning 2-3% of his annual market value.

They are earning $70+ million annually from Japanese sponsors alone.

Then they have a $334 million per annum TV deal until 2038.

There's $400 million before you even sell a single ticket or net a single American endorsement. (And they sell out and have the largest baseball stadium in America)

If it takes a strike then that's what it takes to straighten it out. If they can't get a salary cap put in place then make the penalty so harsh that nobody would wanna go over it. Right now it's just money pretty much.

Thinking back to the Taylor Ward rumors when the offseason started and we all thought AA had bigger fish in mind. Maybe we should re think Ward lol

The Bregman article on MLBTR does a pretty good job breaking down how that decision alone is holding up other theoretical decisions. There’s a lot still to happen. I’m hoping one of these signings or trades will create our opportunity.

It’s getting so hard to keep faith though!

Let's get really funky: replace Arcia with Bregman and sign Pete Alonso and rotate him with Olson at DH and 1B. Move Ozuna to LF.

The other thing to think about... Riley back into LF (he wasn't terrible in the field), Bregman at 3rd? Nacho at 3rd (likely won't hit enough), Bregman at SS?

I doubt they'd entertain Riley moving back to LF or Bregman at SS but Bregman wasn't bad there if I remember right. I'd be curious to let Baldwin start shagging balls in LF in ST.

Riley in left would probably be better than Bregman at ss or Baldwin at left…right? Not saying those are the only options but signing Bregman for 3rd and moving Riley to left isn’t a wild possibility.
