Bravos sign Profar.

Then there are some very inaccurate articles floating around.

Still holds true. Who knows when we offered. Could have been weeks ago and the agent drew it out.

Reported back in February 2024. He left Boras for the same agency that represents Machado and Tatis, Jr.

This will be very interesting to watch. He significantly increased his EV to 91.1 last year, and he was very consistent all year with it. His lowest month was 89.9 in April, and his highest month was 92.9 in July.

Profar's early results won't really mean much, but after about 50-75 PAs we should have a good idea if the increased EV stuck around. If his early EV is 90+ we can be pretty confident the new Profar is the real Profar.

Right. And he was at 86.5 in 2023. So that will be a clear benchmark.

Wonder if a leg kick makes that much difference. xwOBA was .365, so I think it was real improvement but question whether it is sustainable. Alex says he thinks it is.

But last year Alex put a lot of chips on Kelenic, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to evaluate Kelenic and realize that no matter what other skills he has, he doesn't make enough contact to help a big league club. And I expect by Memorial Day he won't be. So Alex can talk himself into things. Sometimes he's right, sometimes he ain't.

Tatis Sr worked with Profar on the leg kick and timing and Profar said that's what changed everything.

Not a big believer in Profar. I guess it's good to add another switch hitter to the lineup but I really wish we had someone who isn't a defensive liability in LF. We already got Acuna half assing it in RF. For better or worse we got our LF for the next 3 years. I don't expect big spending next year but I think we finally get a long term SS next off-season. I think now we just need a SPnlike Scherzer and our off-season will be done.

Idk…they seem hesitant to block Grant Holmes lol

Heh. Actually, the way I take that is he's saying we have enough swinging dicks to fill the rotation, but are open to acquiring an actual established ML starting pitcher.

For me, there is one that I like a lot -- would fit the bill and might be affordable, doesn't seem to have a job offer from the Dodgers. Flaherty. Of course, you have to wonder why the Dodgers wouldn't have offered, other than their love for Japanese superstars.

I'd also like to see two bullpen arms. One of those was Yates, but I guess Alex has other things in mind. That, or he's been really enjoying snorkeling and laying out by the pool.

If Profar’s defense is that bad, why not just keep Soler? You would only be tied to him for one more year and he’s got way more of a track record than Profar.

But, whatever. At least we addressed a clear need, and the upside is there.

it is not Soler bad and the offensive upside is probably better than Soler as well...

Profar plays bad defense. Soler plays unplayable defense.

Yeah, my sense is that Soler is worse, though it's not really provable since Soler's recent teams have (wisely) not let him accumulate significant OF innings. Profar's age 30 and 31 metrics put him toward the bottom of the list of qualified OFs. Age-related decline likely puts him in DH territory by the end of this contract. If his bat plays at DH though, it won't be such a big deal. I'm just hoping to avoid a situation like Nick Castellanos . . . signed off a career year offensively and then his bat and glove declined to the point where the contract has been significantly underwater.

except when he plays the Braves.. then he is Barry Bonds at the plate and Andruw Jones in RF

7th, maybe?

Acuña
Harris
Ozuna
Riley
Olson
Albies
Profar
Murphy
Arcia

Before Acuña is back, move everybody up one and hit Kelenic eighth

If they truly believe his swing change and EV improvement was real, then to stay logically consistent they must believe that .280/.380/.459 line is real. If that .380 OBP is real then he is the clear choice for leadoff, even when Acuna is back hobbling around with knee braces and crutches.

twit enters the conversation..

Braves seem like they’re going to have a team full of DHs locked up in the coming years.

Ozuna is a FA after this season correct?

So he's gone. Then you have Profar that can move to DH perhaps. When Profar is gone Acuña will have torn the acl on his third leg and move to DH. Once Acuña leaves through FA, Olson will move to DH.

You’re forgetting Riley and Albies. We only have one DH spot.
