Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

18 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a good day for AA to improve the actual MLB pitching staff - something more than a AAAA arm on a minor league deal.
 
It’s the 1 year rental and unlikelihood of an extension that has me questioning the Cease trade. I assume we’d make a QO though and get a pick though lessening the prospect loss.

AA doesn't mind signing somebody to a 1 year deal but have we seen him trade good assets for 1 year of a player? I don't recall him doing it but I could be wrong. I think that's what the holdup would be is AA would want an extension. And with Boras as his agent it would take Cease stepping in.

No we haven’t made a trade like this yet, which is why I’m questioning it.
 
AA hasnÂ’t traded for anyone on an expiring contract that I can recall aside from his trade deadline deals that cost little to nothing. He also has yet to pay a starting pitcher market value this close to FA and it would be surprising if he were able to get Cease to sign an extension when we just let Fried walk rather than extend him. HeÂ’s always going to check prices for pieces that could make us better which is going to generate rumors from time to time but trading for Cease would be out of character for AA and negotiating an extension 1 year from FA would be out of character for Boras so itÂ’s an unlikely scenario all around.

The pick would be after the fourth round though, so it barely moves the needle.

Cease is younger and has less health issues. AA may like Cease better going forward than Fried. AA has been after Cease for a few years now and he usually keeps on until he gets them.
 
Word is a trade for Cease is in place, but AA forgot his email password. Once he has it reset they can finalize the trade. Some guy who works IT for AOL.com posted it on truth social and has stuck his entire reputation on it.

I can relate.. I keep hearing him say 'you've got mail' and can't do anything about it. called radio shack 800 number, since I bought my computer from them, but they won't call me back..
 
Bowman says the Braves are among the teams interested in Ryne Stanek. Seems like a Braves type of reliever. His Statcast page is a little more impressive than his stats but he’s probably cheaper than other options and pitched well for the Mets last postseason.

17 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a good day for AA to make a real major league addition to the pitching staff after dropping by Honey Baked Ham.
