I’m sure there is absolutely no end to the waste and nonsense here, hopefully they focus on the big companies actually stealing from or defrauding the system and not some series of grievances about poor people or gender-affirming care.

Yes becuase that is the only thing that Musk and his team have identified.

Seems like you had no issue with 10K USD subscriptions being doled out to federal workers for politico.

Its amazing how you are actually against this work.

Did I say that’s all he’s doing? When it comes to programs like Medicare and SNAP benefits, there are genuinely accurate arguments to be made for addressing things like fraud on the part of individuals who shouldn’t be in the system, so if that’s where DOGE focuses, it wouldn’t be per se wrong, but it’d be disappointing to me. The medical insurance industry and all the companies that take bunches of funding only to turn around and hire a bunch of minimum wage folks with no experience or aptitude for health care to do the hands-on care. My worry is that these are the types of groups who might have enough political influence in the right places to be mostly spared while we are bombarded with statistics on how many people made $5 too much to qualify for Medicaid and defrauded the government.

I think the system.has been so corrupted that the only solution is a sledge hammer instead of a hammer.

Yes, some legit things will.be disrupted. But the world will survive while we figure things out

Well, most of it anyway.

You really are a drama queen.

The math on this is simple for me. If this rushed process led to truly life-saving work abroad being disrupted only to be continued later, then at least some of the world won’t be going on. And I happen to think that kind of sucks.

It's long overdo for America to prioritize it's own issues than what's going on abroad. We shouldn't be the world's savior.

My point remains that it doesn’t quite need to be as much of an extreme either/or as it’s being framed to me here. We can shift our priorities to focus more on domestic aid and reducing foreign aid. But we will presumably continue to have some foreign aid initiatives going forward. If the Trump State Department says some sort of foreign aid is truly important to do, but it was temporarily suspended so Elon Musk could have some snazzy headlines, I once again think that kind of sucks.

For as long as this fraud and waste has been going on it doesn't really bother me if some foreign aid, that's actually useful, is paused for a bit.

So mgt you are for it, kinda but only the way you want it and to whom you want it

Got it. Just seems unrealistic

That’s fine, but given that some of that actually useful aid being paused might mean the difference between some child living and dying this month, I am somewhat bothered by it.
