2025 Spring Training Thread

I wouldn't use a juiced ball year as a 'case in point'.. he is barely an average hitter as a lefty and a beast as a righty for his career. That is not to say he would be better as a righty facing righties.. but I would like to see him try it in spring to see. and the splits were equally as bad in 24 as they were good in 23..

Was the ball not juiced when he was hitting under .200 with an OPS below .600 as a lefty in April of May of that season?

SSS aside.. the point was if he should give up being a LHH... I wouldn't point to 4 month of '23 when the whole league was murdering the ball as a 'case in point' that Ozzie is actually a good LHH..

At this point I think the best option for the 5th SP is to have Strider throw with his left hand until the right one is fully healed.

I need to look at his fangraph data.. but seems like he is a ground ball machine.. So if he can just pitch to contact and stop walking folks then he might be a quality 5th starter.. nothing special.. but serviceable.

Anderson's GB% in the minors last year was 51.9%. That's pretty consistent with his career which tends to land between 45% and 55%. He's never been a groundball machine.

Anderson needs to K north of 8 per 9 and walk south of 4 per 9. I'm not sure he's capable of either.

While I have zero faith in him. He is a bit of an enigma to me right now. I don’t care what his career totals are since he supposedly changed his delivery and pitch shape after coming back. Right now, extreme sss, he is a ground ball machine. But the walks won’t play. He has to be better or they need to just dfa and hope no one else wants him.

I was listening to the game off and on while trying to work today - every single time I paid attention, Anderson had base traffic and was walking another one on.

I think Cy’s mom should get the job… I mean, I know they want to give Ian every possible chance because he’s out of options… but I’m gonna be out of air conditioner fluid to huff if he keeps this up. AJSS at least has the potential to get better and grow into something - at least he would be gaining valuable MLB experience. If we are going to punt every fifth game, at least AJSS being in there could provide some future value……

I’m off to scour the junkyard for some Freon.

Soroka was such an easy call. Can’t believe a team needing starting and pen help didn’t roll a 10 million gamble on a former ace working his way back. Dude didn’t forget how to pitch. Just had to get everything right.

But I guess those who thought Murphy was the best player in that disaster also didn’t think soroka was worth it either.

He's still an above average hitter vs lefties over his career. It's really not close to as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be.

He's Eduardo Escobar from the left side and Mookie Betts from the right side.

I mean he is way down the list of problems AA has to deal with. I completely agree. But an 89ish ops+ for his career is below average. I don’t recall the wrc but it is in line with that number. I would have loved to see someone convince him to try full time righty in spring. I think I would like see Mookie more often personally.

Not for a second baseman.
