Economics Thread

So, short of the House realizing they actually are the ones who should be handling this, what even is the endgame here? What level of domestic consumption can we possibly conjure up to replace the lost global demand for US goods (and services, which the WH conveniently neglected)? The people driving the bus absolutely have to know that and are just telling everyone to shove it and seemingly making it up as they go along anyway, so what would actually compel them to stop it?

More Taiwan agents at the canadian border?

It does appear that if you ask chatgpt to give you tarrif rates to level the playing field, it spits out the tarrif rates that were just released

Trump will end up doing more for free trade than any president in our nations history. Well aside from trade with China and any nations that allow China to circumvent things.

So, all the nations then.

Currency weakening of countries that plow their crap on us? Impact of tariffs then felt just by the host nation? Someone may have mentioned this before in the past….

It’s cute you guys think it’s a good idea to just give up manufacturing to China as we move into the future.

It’s also cute the “expert skeptics” are now just taking the “experts” at their words.

Nobody serious was claiming this. What has been said is that the tariffs are exclusively paid for within the host nation, first by the companies importing the goods, then later by all of us who need to buy the now more expensive things. Collapsing the economies of other nations when we don’t buy the goods they’re producing is just a fun little side effect.

I dunno, the calculations included a Delta symbol so we might need thethe and his knowledge of advanced math to get to the bottom of this.

The majority of the impact of tariffs go on the exporting nation. Currency devaluation is just one aspect that bears this out. I’ll wait to see all these massively exploding prices we are promised as a result.

Ah math I was doing as a junior high schooler? I think you can handle this one.

The domestic diamond industry is finally getting the boost it needed.

The math has been handled, it has nothing to do with tariff rates by other countries and is instead exactly what it has been claimed to be by critics: trade deficit on goods divided by exports.
