Economics Thread

Everything I don't agree with is communist/socialist!

Meanwhile, you support a fully financialized economy that benefits from slave labor of communist dictatorships.

Odd - However you justify your awful worldview.
Everyone who doesn’t agree with me hates America!

Please just call him back Xi

We all know it’s theater for the monkeys but for the good of mankind it needs to happen.

CCP is losing bigly - EU says they won't buy the CCP's goods impacted by the tariff.

India/Vietnam already committing to new agreements with the US that include stopping the CCP's redirection of goods.

The headline of that tweet couldn't be more wrong of what is actually happening.

Can ypu answer what you think free trade is?

Exchange of goods between two or more parties at agreed upon consideration.

Here is investopedia:

"Free trade refers to policies that permit inexpensive imports and exports, without tariffs or other trade barriers. In a free trade agreement, a group of countries agrees to lower their tariffs or other barriers to facilitate more exchanges with their trading partners."

SO you tell me why its free trade if one side has a Tariff or other trade restrictions but hte US doesn't?

I don't think you hate America - I just think you pretend to hate communism but support hte largest communist state that has ever existed.
Do you think that communism itself is just inherently evil or something? Aces doesn’t support Communist China, but not every action that China takes is evil and not every action the United States takes is good. The policies you’re full-throatedly supporting are less Capitalist in nature than what China is looking to do with trade. You can’t just slap on the moniker of freedom and pretend the actions themselves are more noble.

I know this is war but some resolution needs to occur with China. I hope they lose bigly, but financial markets running on prolonged uncertainty is like a car running on no oil. At some point the engine is going to break.

Xi and Donald should be forced in a room by the rest of the 8 billion people on earth and they are not allowed to come out until they come to an agreement.

Yes. The effective tarriff rate on the US before Bernie got elected was 2%.

Would I like it to be zero? Sure. That would be better for our buyers and our sellers. But it is mostly inconsequential on the macro

But now it is Americans who are asked to pay higher prices on good from other countries. This is an American policy directly limiting the trade capabilities of Americans. It is the most anti free trade policy of my life, outside of the embargo on Cuba

My general advice is if you find yourself on the same side of Bernie Sanders on a multitude of economic issues, you are an anti-free trade socialist

I don’t much care how expensive China makes product for its citizens. Honestly tariffs make much more sense for China or Vietnam than here because at least they’re generally robbing from themselves to fund the massive social projects (they have implemented mostly to keep people from rising up and overthrowing them).

Effective rate is not relevant to a seller on a product that is directly tariffed.

Do we have free trade with the CCP? What about non-tariff barriers? We should just stand by while CCP steals our IP and forces JV's on any business?

I'd rather shift the supply chain to North American / India then continue to deal with teh CCP.

They can never be trusted.

You know deep down that they released the virus on the world because they were losing badly the first time in 2019. They cannot and should not be ever trusted.

Now if the CCP losese the mandate from heaven and they have a new power structure that is actually more lik ethe West then have at it - Lets leverage their manufacturing.

It’s relevant to the nation at large, unless you think all of us should be paying more to help out very specific industries.

Every action the CCP is taking it to become the global hegemon.

What happens when the worlds largest country and military might is communist?

We all know what happens next.

My point is everyoen loves to 'free trade' when the system in place is not actually free.

We do now: they will pretend trade deficits are exactly the same as trade barriers and impose laughably high tariffs to stop us from ripping them off.

Yeah - They will just wage economic war.

Ok, sure thing bud.

Naive as usual.
