Verdugo Called Up; De La Cruz Optioned

A bit surprised. Aren’t White and Fairchild together redundant?
Verdugo seems redundant to Kelenic as well. Looks like there will be some treading water until Acuna returns soon and Profar later. Curious to see how Verdugo does. Verdugo has a better record of performance than Kelenic, but he wasn't very good last year.

It's a sad state of affairs when a guy likely to post a .600 OPS is a massive upgrade over the previous guy getting everyday reps.

Verdugo plays with fire kinda like Joc and the team needs that. We have a good group of guys but it seems like nobody would get in somebody's ass if need be. Sale seems like he would and maybe Kimbrel when he gets called up eventually.

Verdugo's rate stats last year were near identical to his career averages. Exit velocity was down a bit, but everything else was right in line. His BABIP was only .253 compared to his career .301.

Since he's only 29, I am optimistic he can play near career averages and be a quality hitter. Just try to sit him vs LHP as much as you realistically can.

Hopefully we can find find another RHH OFer on the scrap heap so that we can dump Fairchild. Wouldn't Whit Merrifield be a way better fit at this point than Fairchild? Was he not liked here last year or something? I mean I know he isn't a great solution, but he seems like Babe Ruth at this point compared to Fairchild, and he can back up several spots.

Didn’t he retire?

The puzzling thing about Verdugo is that there was absolutely no market for him this past off-season. Maybe his agent was asking for too much, but I was surprised when he was still available in mid-March.

According to the Sox Insider, Verdugo was polarizing. Benched for hustle and tardy issues by Cora. However, before last year's season I thought he was good enough to be an above average contributor. Perhaps he helps tread water and the Braves found a good reclamation project. AA needs a win. The Braves need a win. This board needs a win 😂😂😂

I want to see Carlos Rodriguez get a chance at some point. He doesn't have any power but all he does is hit... he's fast, he walks about 10+ percent of the time and only K's around 10-12 percent of the time. He hasn't had a chance in MLB yet and is only 24. Send Fairchild down for him.
