Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

"Hey europe... your trade policy is really dumb and it needs to change. So we are going to copy what you're doing! No - actually we are gonna put the most random ass tarrifs in the world on you to equal trade deficits because we don't understand what a trade deficit means!"
What’s going to happen when the EU takes down more barriers?

How stupid will this look?

This discussion reminds me of how Trump was in danger of losing Iowa. 🤣
I'll leave the board if you can find any prediction of mine that he would lose Iowa.

But I bet I can find a post of you slurping MAGA MIKE JOHNSON or thethe assuring us Trump would be installed president after losing in 2020:ROFLMAO:

So zero tariffs
Increase defense spending

Okay okay… I’m onboard

What does non-trade barriers entail? Devil is in the details

I’d have to go through each countries subsidy schedule for competitive markets to determine that. How much burden to they place on American businesses because of unequal treatment.

I’m not even against favoring domestic bisiensss honestly. It just can’t be egregious to eliminate outside competition while of course some of that outside competition is domiciled in a country that literally protects their very existence.

Maybe they will. That's be fine with me. Not worth completely decimated the global supply chain, IMO... and likely putting Trump -14 on economic approval

I applaud that you are not actually asking for much from Europe. I agree it is very reasonable.

But that also means we won’t gain much for starting a trade war with them.

It’s Canada all over again.

Great / tell me what that approval is when we get to q1 26.

Global supply chain meaning communist China. I understand.

Take down all barriers one of which are tariffs. All free nations should have free trade with one another.

Then also pay for the US defense.

Seems reasonable no?

Or do you fall for the propaganda of “2%”?

Paying for US defense as part of a trade deal is bullshit. We provide defense because it gives us a strategic advantage and we can work within their sovereign borders to advance our own interests. I think we should not be in the war funding business nearly as much as we are and would welcome a massive reduction in the scope of that expenditure, but charging a flat rate for US defense simply because we want to be the world police is not a reasonable ask.

This is all about China. I’ve said so from the beginning. Part of that strategy is isolation which means close and closer trading ties with the rest of the world.

It’s been clear as day. Trump never actually wanted to push tariffs on these nations. Just China and the countries that act as a conduit for Chinese goods/busienssss.

Well, unless these tarrifs are eliminated soon... q1 26 is gonna be ruff. Better start begging Powell for help now.

Ultimately trumps first impression on the population is likely to stick. Biden had the same challenge with inflation

What interests? This is absolute nonsense and if you actually believe this then that should include the right to take Greenland whenever we deem necessary.

Would

Trump would tariff California if he could, so spare me the “he doesn’t want to do it” nonsense.

Tarifffs in the world will be eliminated soon. Just not eh ones in China and counties that facilitate chinas cheating

All I said was give Johnson a chance. Go back and look. He did turn outbad.

You didn't say that he would lose Iowa.

You did say he was in danger.

You really don't want to go tat for tat who was right and wrong on anything.

I've been wrong on a few things but your track record is just awful.

All we have to do is find your hilarious takes on the 2024 election.

My hot take is if Trump focused exclusively on China from the jump that he wouldn’t be under water politically.

Europe has been a shit partner when it comes to defense. Ukraine exposed the entire gambit. They’ve significantly underinvested in their own defense (they admit this!) and the Ukraine war exposed how vulnerable they are. It’s entirely reasonable that the US asks them to step up.

Why will they be eliminated soon?

And which countries are not included in the facilitating china's cheating?
EU / India / Japan / Canada / Mexico are easy ones. I’d be surprised if they are still in place for another month. China and south East Asian countries I’d expect for a lot longer.

They’ll be taken down because we will get concessions in some form or another. The main target has always been China. Just like it was in term 1.

Based on what I can tell I'm the only person on the board who managed to actually make money betting on the 2024 election.

But I'm happy to revisit the takes. If memory serves, I said Trump wouldn't win the general if he was the nominee. I changed my mind in the spring as I saw how pathetic Joe Biden was... and then they put the worst candidate is US history in his place.

If you want some tips and advice on how to actually make some money on predictions, let me know!

I don’t think political fallout is part of this calculus. Too much is at stake here as the ccp grows in strength at a dangerous time in world history. Trump needs to isolate China

Oh you know what you were doing when you were “interested” in the van der plants endorsement. It’s all good. You were hysterically wrong and it’s over.
