Mitch McGary

If that guy cared about basketball more than blazing....

Sort of like my story. Took me till 27 to change careers towards accounting then subsequently to finance/FP&A/data.

If I wasn't taking bong hits at 5AM in college through my mid 20's it would have happened sooner.

Basketball players don't get the luxury of a long career.

Much like we needed to wait on young Mitch, probably would wait to hold victory laps on a CPI report everyone expected to come in less than 2.5% (boats take 4-6 weeks and tariffs didn’t apply if you were anchors up before tariffs went into effect).

I’m glad Trump and team are closing deals and resolving trade disputes quickly. I think quite highly of Scott Bessent. I expect some products will stock out but the quick ish resolution will help us avoid the doomsday scenario.

But I fully expect baseline tariffs will lead to price inflation and I’m still confused what all this is for. But I’ll credit Trump and team for pivoting quickly.

You call it a pivot to save face when in reality Trump and team crippled the CCP with their plans and they had to come to us with hat in hand begging for a deal.

And as I've always said - My position is that prices will increase but not to the levels you and the rest believe (based on blind belief in 'experts'). Already we are seeing the changes will not be material and I would expect that to continue with the baseline tariffs.

Do you think Chinese manufacturers want to risk losing their business to other nations? Come on now Chop - Majority of Tariffs will be eaten by the manufacturer- I think you are starting to recognize that this wasn't haphazard and that there was an actual plan in place that is working beautifully.

I’m sorry. What did China give the US in the deal?

Oh Chop - You're still trying to deny the obvious.

Its ok, I actually have full belief that you will admit to your mischaracterization of this whole situation when the time comes.

Others, will struggle to come to grips with their foolishness.

Others, will not be so fair.
I’ve been very consistent for the past year that I’m perfectly onboard with strategic tariffs done in the name of national defense. I’m very happy paying a consumption tax if that’s the plan. But let’s be honest about what it is and is not. The history of tariffs demonstrate that this is likely to lead to a net decrease in domestic job creation and lower consumption (even Trump agrees when he tells people to be happy with the number of dolls they’ll be able to afford).

But if I lose some wealth but we get a global supply chain less dependent on China for semis, pharma, etc., I’m open to the idea of that being a good idea.

This a fair summary despite me not agreeing with you on the edges of resulting impact.

Its very clear that China came to the table despite then swearing they didn't. They understand the abuses they have perpetrated against the world. They know if Trump continued with his plan it would potentially spell their end.

Trump could have spelled their end by keeping tarrifs high for a few more weeks and chose not to do it?

Why aren't you livid?

Just trying to confirm with ultra high IQ.

- Tarrifs were all about destroying China

- Trump puts 145% tarrifs on China

- These tarrifs had no significant impact on US businesses or prices

- These tarrifs were crippling China, and would have ended them if they continued, to the point where they secrety came begging Trump for mercy

- Trump decides to reduce tarrifs by 80% as a mercy to them... in exchange for, something.

- MAGA declares 4D chess,.mission accomplished, golden age

Does that cover it?
