GDT #32: Cardinals @ Braves (May 6, 2014)

Any Fredi apologists want to defend him on the Uggla front? Or is it universally accepted how assinine it is to keep putting him out there? Have some balls Fredi.

Do you know for a fact that trotting Uggla out there is his wish? Given what he's paid, it's not a simple decision.

It sucks that Dan lost all his skill, but there is no easy solution.

Perhaps you should apply to be the Braves manager.

I'm talking about when he was with us. And no, Uggla has only been terrible for 6 months now. That's still too long though.

Besides, I was half-kidding anyway. I don't get the snarky response.

6 months?
Even if he was putting up a .750 OPS, with his terrible defense and complete lack of fundamentals, he'd be a terrible player.

If he was able to sit him down for the playoffs, if they were cool with ditching Lowe and his salary and Kawakami and his salary, it's probably safe to assume this is Fredi's call. He and Dan are boys.

Hitting for power and getting on base is a nice asset. He's not doing that anymore though. I don't really understand why you are turning this into an argument when I'm essentially agreeing with you.

can't go on much longer, Fredi's only got so much power. Its on Wren. He has a vested interest in Uggla turning it around too, more than Fredi, actually.

Bingo, Fredi has done all he can with Uggla. Wren needs to call the shot and release him.

You're kind of agreeing, but saying he's only been bad for 6 months is just not accurate. He's been a bad player for years now, and terrible for a good amount of that time.

This rut this offense is in is almost unheard of. Not one player is having any kind of a clutch at-bat.

Fredi definitely has the power to bench him more.

Sure, but wouldn't it be better to just let him go? If Pastornicky is better in every way, and La Stella is apparently almost ready.....time to do something that matters long term.
