1/2 liberals report that they have poor mental health

staggering. some self reflection of our academics may drive some curiosity as to what may be driving this. but our academics have no curiosity
 
and large numbers of core maga have been dying early deaths of despair

it's actually much more healthy to talk to a therapist than to pretend everything is ok

i had a maga neighbor who had lost both his parents during covid and put on an enormous amount of weight while filling up his recycling bins with bottles of hard liquor...i and his friends were very concerned about him, but he wouldn't countenance the idea of getting help

that's great... but also telling your reaction to 1 out of 2 liberals reporting that they have mental health is to talk about MAGA people
 
eh...just about everyone i know has talked to a therapist or sought out mental health counselling at one point or another...it's not much different than going to the dentist...come to think of it the parallel holds...the rugged individualists in magaland don't believe in dentistry (or public policy that increases access to it) either with similarly unfortunate results...they don't even want fluoride or vaccines...but they do want to be "free" to get ivermectin over the counter...crazy if you ask me

if 1/2 liberals reported having 20 cavities and thus sought after a dentist... good for them, but is someone going to address the point that they are so consistently getting massive amounts of cavities?

we had this unprecedented decline in life expectancy of core maga....didn't happen in any other country...i would say that's the #1 most shocking thing out there in terms of health (both physical and mental)

back to responding to a point about 50% of liberals reporting poor mental health with a deflection to talk about MAGA

academics are useless
 
If one group reports mental health problems at a higher rate but another group is blowing its brain out and suffering a drop in life expectancy due to deaths of despair it seems pretty obvious which group should be receiving most of our attention

Kinda like one group going to the dentist often and a second group that doesn't go to the dentist but is missing a lot of teeth

do you have the data on suciide voting preferences? can you share?

absent of thinking about MAGA, do you have any curiosity as to why liberals are reporting such horrible mental health?

It can be inferred. The group experiencing these deaths of despair and falling life expectancy is white men in their 40s and 50s with a HS education or less.
 
Guys, it’s genuinely not that controversial to suggest that the people dying by suicide in red states are more likely to be conservative than they are in blue states, nor that there is less access to mental health services in rural areas. We can agree to disagree on what is driving the larger share of people reporting poor mental health amongst liberals or the efficacy of mental/emotional health services in general, but it’s just an empirical fact that there are more resources available in larger population centers.

I personally think the additional access leads to more people thinking and talking about their mental health, and that cultural differences between urban and rural areas in our country contribute further to those discrepancies, driving suicide and overdose rates higher in rural areas, and rates of diagnosed depression higher in urban areas.

So it's your believe that everyone has poor mental health at the same rates, but the libs are the only ones reporting it?

I think the Democratic Party has certainly cultivated much of this discrepancy with its actions and priorities. I just think you’re underselling the impact of some non-causal correlations as well.
