This is the crap bday present I get from my team..

Someone told me the Braves had a deal in place for Devers. He confirmed, and even swore it was this:

Red Sox: Marcell Ozuna
Sean Murphy
Didier Fuentes
Owen Murphy

Braves: $65M
Rafael Devers

Boston vetoed it because they wanted someone to pay the entire contract. It makes sense because a Boston reporter said that a different deal was vetoed before the Giants deal happened. AND the Red Sox said in their press conference that they did not accept the best offer they got but they accepted the best offer for the Red Sox. They just wanted his entire contract gone.

Take it as you will, but it makes sense and he's given me accurate stuff in the past.
 
I am not sure how to process that trade.. assuming it is true, and might as well since we are dealing in hypotheticals anyways, I don't know if that is a good deal or bad deal...

I mean, you are saving a few million this year by dropping the 16 million and 15 million of Ozuna and MethHead..

but you still owe Devers 220ish million over 7 years. knock of 30 mill for the rest of Meth's contract and 65 mill from Boston and you are down to 7 year for 125ish million which plays out to ~18 mill per...

Even if they ate the entire Devers contract, that deal would be idiocy of Biblical proportions. A deal that would literally make both our MLB team and minor leagues worse. I refuse to believe it.

definitely makes the minors weaker with Owen being gone.. but I think it improves the MLB team because Devers is better than Meth and Ozuna.. and you still have Baldwin playing everyday.

Devers is better than Ozuna.. and Ozuna is older and gone after this year. This locks up the DH for the window at 18 million per.. That said, Devers is fat and may age poorly.. so there is huge risk with him. I don't like the two pitchers going over.. but there is some intrigue in that deal.

better is a stretch.. that said, a healthy Ozuna might not be a thing this year if hip is bugging him. I think this trade was to get a good hitter on value for the next few several years. Truist would be a good park for Devers..
