NFL Draft Thread

Hoping Jeremiah Attaochu still there for 2nd pick. Falcons worked him out. Ealy or Tuitt would also be strong need picks.

More I think about the Cowboys taking Zack Martin, the more I like it. Got to have a strong O-Line, which is something Dallas has not had in years. Have a Pro Bowl tackle in Tyron Smith and a potential solid player in Travis Frederick on the line already. Now add Martin to the mix. Good job Jerry.

Now, go get some defensive linemen.

98% of these picks are going to be busts anyways.

It's always fun to go back past drafts, and remember Mel and other analysts saying "THIS IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER. HE'S GOING TO BE GREAT IN A YEAR OR TWO" then see those same guys fall off a cliff or not even make it to a second season.

Bah with Titans. After Ebron and Barr were gone, we should have traded down. Lewan wasn't an immediate need, even if he was BPA. We gotta have the most expensive OL in the league right now.

I really like the pick. He wasn't the guy (or any of the group of guys) I wanted at 16, but he's a really good OL who can play G or T. I see the left side of our line being solidified now for the next 7 or 8 years. Had Barr or Donald been there that's who I wanted, but with both of them gone, and even the WR out of LSU gone (he was the other main "I don't really want him because we need DL/DE types" but he's the BPA at the time) I was totally fine with it and even more totally fine it WASN'T JM. I was really happy for the kid that he went to Cleveland, I think he'll love it there if he plays even half way decent but I definitely didn't want him in Dallas and I was really concerned, knowing Jerry, that's what was about to happen.

Tonight I want Crichton, Lawrence, Jernigan, or another quality DL/DE in round 2 and hopefully another one of those in round 3. I think all the best safeties are gone so if we take one of those it'll have to be an "under the radar" type.

Anybody know anything about the kid the 49ers took? Seems like he is versatile and very athletic. Anyone watch any of his games in college?

Didn't watch him play but supposedly the Niners will use him in Nickel situations. He's a reach. I'm guessing Roby would have been their pick if they hadn't been having so many off the field issues with their current players to take a gamble on him.

Glad the Falcons finally woke up and realized that the most important positions on the field outside of QB are the offensive/defensive lines.

Maybe Ryan won't get abused next year.

One certainly can hope. The stat that had him more pressured than guys who hold onto the football forever like Wilson, Flacco, etc. is a disturbing thought. Considering Ryan usually is a 3 second sack

Assuming Baker is healthy, Falcons at worst should have a solid OL.

Baker is an average to good tackle depending on how banged up he is. Matthews I think should be able to be an average tackle. Blalock is a very good guard, Asamoah is a solid guard. And Ii think Konz gets one more shot, if he tanks hawley is an OK in a pinch center. We'll struggle against 3-4 teams most likely who have a nasty NT but out new OL should be way better than last year.

Hopefully out second round pick can be someone who`gets to the QB.

I think the Falcons are still another year away from being a super bowl threat again. They are going to need to add another weapon for Ryan (either TE or late round RB).

The NFC is too deep. I don't think they are a real threat honestly next year.

ALl it takes is to make the playoffs. If you get into the playoffs and the right guys get hot magical things happen. Last year is the first time in ages that the 2 best teams got to the Superbowl. I actually off the top of my head can't think of the time before that it happened. Probably 97 with the Packers/Broncos. If you get to the playoffs anything can happen. The Giants 2 superbowl runs or the Ravens Superbowl run are perfect examples. Players getting hot at the right time.

And come the PS, you won't bet against Ryan and Julio to explode. They were murdering bitches at the start of last year. Even if their defense was horribly horrific.

I think the Falcons should have a better shot next year. And Ryan could use another weapon to ease in while Roddy is old. But Ryan can more than get by on their current set of talent.

He's a good cover safety that can play some nickel corner.

They are going to need a lot to have a deep playoff run. You only win with bad defenses if you have a great QB.

Yeah, they need to hit on two more of their draft picks (talking about good starting players) to get there this year.

Luckily the Falcons have that. For the quality of defenses he faced and the total crappiness of his OL and for almost half the year having his only weapon being the about to retire Tony Gonzalez, Ryan had a very solid year. NOt the prettiest number wise but when you consider he played the toughest schedule of defenses in the NFL, and he only had Julio for like 5 weeks and Roddy wasn't close to 80% til like week 13, Ryan had an impressive season. He made Harry ****ing Douglas a 1000 yard receiver. That's not easy. I can't think of a talented QB who had the same issues. At least Peyton and Brady if they lost weapons still had their offensive lines. The Falcons OL was a total joke last year.

Now is Ryan in the class of Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, and Brees? No but if you have to be elite to be great, your standards are too high.

Why do you keep saying Harry Douglas as a 1000 yard wide receiver as some sort of vindication that Ryan is great?

Ebron was an odd selection. He's a very talented receiving TE, but he can't block a lick so he's only going to fit in certain packages. At 10? That's kinda pushing it.
