GDT 6/23/25: Braves @ Mets - Not Everything is Schwelly in the Neighborhood

Dylan Lee has always been super consistent, but having him be one of the best bullpen arms in baseball wasn't on my radar this year. This Savant page is wonderful: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/dylan-lee-669276?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb
People like to bitch about AA scouring the scrap heap for relievers, yet that’s how we found gems like Lee and Johnson. Even ELDS has been pretty good for us this year.

Note: that’s not to say I don’t think he should’ve gotten a “proven” reliever, especially of the LHP variety. I was pretty adamant about that in the off-season. But, look at what Tanner Scott is doing after all of that hooplah. Relievers are just too volatile to commit any major resources to, except for the elites (like Iglesias and Jansen).

I know no one here wants to believe, and the reaction after every win is "Blah, it means nothing," but just to note, the team has won nine of its last 13 games.

From Fangraphs on Sales injury impact regarding Fuentes spot start:
Both of our pitch-modeling systems went gaga over Fuentes’ debut, with PitchingBot scoring his fastball a 65 on the 20–80 scale and Stuff+ grading it at 117 on a scale where 100 is average.

Also got solid marks for command and Curve

I love looking for value if you are a rebuilding club OR this is your 8th or 9th man up in the pen... but dumpster diving for someone who appears in Game ONE of the season in a tie game and immediately blows it is profoundly stupid.

It’s not nothing, but it’s just the team regressing to their mean, which is a .500 team. And that will continue to be their mean (or worse with injuries) as long as they are sporting 4 of the worst hitters in baseball in their everyday lineup.

That’s on Snitker though. Which is also on AA for letting him do whatever the hell he wants.

Without Sale, I think this is a sub .500 team with the 4 sucktards playing...
