GDT 6/23/25: Braves @ Mets - Not Everything is Schwelly in the Neighborhood

I think one of Albies or Harris have a lot better 2nd half and it helps out a lot. Also Profar will be better than all 3 of the LF'ers we've been running out there so that's an improvement. I don't see how AA can fix SS at the deadline but Allen has been GG caliber with the glove. He will need bullpen help and possibly another SP. Getting Bautista from Baltimore would help this year and next.

If the Braves can take two of the next three against the Mets, they’ll head home for a nine-game stretch against the Phillies, Angels, and Orioles—with Profar set to return on July 2. Go 6–3 at home (which is doable, especially with how they play in Atlanta), and they’d be 44–45 and right back in striking distance. This next week is absolutely critical.

Most fans are understandably feeling pretty doom and gloom right now, but the second-half schedule is relatively light, and even Profar at his career averages would be a big lift. If Sale returns in the next six weeks and AA can add an impact reliever and starter, there’s a legit path to the playoffs.

Still think we need another bat, somehow. Ozzie and Harris can’t be counted on at this point, and who knows with Profar. At best we’re still left with two gaping black holes in a lineup that consists of an underperforming Riley and hurt Ozuna.

Even if Profar helps get us to the playoffs, we still have to find someone to play LF in the playoffs. We aren’t doing anything with Verdonezo and White in LF during the playoffs. And we have to replace Allen with a significantly better offensive SS. As many have said, if Ozzie and Harris are producing you can deal with his offense since he’s such a defensive wizard. We can’t have 3 black holes and he’s the obvious upgrade.

That's part of why Devers would have been an incredible add. They badly need a consistent bat.

Both Ozzie and Harris have historically been better in the second half, so I have to hope one of them figures it out (it's unlikely, I know), but I agree that an impact bat would be ideal. It would just be hard to expect one at the deadline.

They need to sit Ozuna now and let him rest for a few weeks and left Murphy and Baldwin swap out at C and DH. I don't believe Albies and Harris both suck this bad the rest of the year. I believe Harris will be the one to snap out of it but how much I don't know. I know Nacho was blah in 8 games last year but that's a small sample size. He's killing it in AAA so let him take Fairchilds spot and play 2-3 days a week over Albies. But you're right we do need an impact BP arm and SP and a legit bat that can take over for Williams. Nacho can back up the whole infield so Williams is useless.

yeah, not getting the counting on Profar to help take.. even if dude come back as peak Bonds, he is useless this year in the playoffs.. so back to the teams current situation. Harris needs to see some pine.. Ozzie needs to see some pine and hopefully that shakes them up enough to figure out what they are doing isn't working.

Yeah, but I think you have to count on Profar to help get them there. This version of the braids wouldn't be favored in the playoffs, but Sale - Schwelly - Strider with the best bat in Ronald could presumably make a ton of noise.

As much as I wanna see Ozzie and Harris sit, it won't happen. Just gonna have to hope they start hitting, and if they don't, a different LF won't matter anyway.

They do seem like they have gotten to comfortable. Albies showed some flare last night by looking genuinely pissed off. The Orioles, A's, Pirates, and Nats are a few teams that are probably gonna be out of it at the deadline so what help can they provide? Bautista, Gore, Buxton, Pablo Lopez, Mason Miller are a few that would help not just this year but next year also. Miller is probably more available just bc it's the A's and AA seems to have a good relationship with them. Buxton has been really good this year and can play CF so that would be the ideal get. Not sure how the OF would play out with Profar coming back but he did this to himself so let him be the 4th OF'er. With Didier showing he has talent the team may not get a SP at the deadline with Sale coming back in 5-6 weeks so Miller and Buxton would really help this team out now and next year.

Devers wouldn't have added much for 2025 though since he'd be replacing an existing quality bat.

A existing bat that he's way better than because said bat is injured. That also begs the bigger question of why the Braves won't IL him to heal and be fresh for the summer grind and just swap out Murphy and Baldwin. The funny thing is that Murphy is a quality bat, Drake just happens to be the exact type of bat that this lineup needs.

Twins.. Murph makes no sense for them and Waldrep sucks.

twins could get a lot more for Duran alone.

Fair.

But I think the bigger point for them in this would be to move Correa and the 90+ million left on his deal.

Twins have a decent catcher in Jeffers but he has only 1 year left of control and he doesn't grade especially well on defense. So I don't agree that Murphy doesn't make any sense for them. He isn't the cleanest fit, but I think it's a fit nonetheless. In a vacuum, I think Murphy and Duran probably have similar overall trade value, though the cheaper control favors Duran.

I also think they could get a lot more for Duran by himself, but again the point here is that are gonna have to either eat money or attach a player to Correa in order to move him.
