There really isn't much deviation from his career stats, other than HR rate. His EV is peaking but it's well within range of his career numbers and only 1 MPH higher than last year, which itself was a career high.

His Savant page is nearly identical to a season ago in every way. One thing that does stand out is that 11 of his homers would not be a homer in most parks. His expected HRs currently sits at 24.7, which again is still really good, but it's also much closer to what you would expect given his career numbers. So he's had a good bit of luck in that regard. If half of those 11 homers were outs or doubles, there probably wouldn't be quite as many eyes on him as there currently are.

Okay. But was it actually a specific comment on his dead mother or was it just a typical momma joke from a fan who probably didn’t know his mother was deceased? Neither is right, but obviously one is a lot worse than the other.

No one is reporting on the specifics of the comment, they are just reporting on Marte’s reaction, and by doing are framing it like there was some sinister intent by the fan. I don’t approve either way, but I don’t think the fan should be vilified for simple trash talk that backfired. Now if it was specifically about his dead mother, than obviously that fan should be banned from attending games.
