2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Unless someone values Murphy as the 3.5-4 fWAR player he is at a discount contract, just keep him
This hold true for all trades.

The benefit to trading him at the deadline is some other team is going to have to pay the deadline premium for a frontline catcher. Murphy should be able to bring back a significant piece for 2026, and the only reason he's even available is the presence of Baldwin.

AA can't allow the roster to be built such that a frontline regular is sitting the bench while someone like Nick Allen is playing everyday. That imbalance must be addressed.

Only way he takes 30 per is if his new contract started next year at 30 per. That'd bump him up 10 million a year for the next 3-4 years

This is spot on. Murphy could bring back a full time SS moving forward. I still say the Cards are the answer. Winn would be a good get from them but they won't trade him while they are in the playoff hunt and may not wanna trade their top SS until they figure out what to do with Winn in the offseason. I like the Angels SS but they don't really need Murphy

Yeah, he's gonna be seeking 45-50 million per at 30 years old with 2 rebuilt knees. I just don't know
It would be a killer but if he's approached with an extension that he turns down that we can't go past then you have to realistically consider what a trade would bring back.

I'd honestly try to structure a deal like Machado or Harper. Try to get a low 30's AAV and sign him until he's over 40. That's likely the only way he will stay. Braves aren't going to pay top shelf AAV for anybody.

I wouldn't hate it as long as we in low 30s.

The Padres have been mentioned as a bat-needy team that could be a fit for Ozuna. Now it’s being reported they’re looking for a big upgrade at catcher, as well.

What would a realistic haul from San Diego look like—something that could entice the Braves to move off Murphy, but also help as soon as 2026?

Pads don't have much we need, but they have MLB pitching to spare. Maybe a 3 way trade with the Yanks?

Yanks get Cease, a top 10 SD prospect, and reliever from us. SD gets Murphy and a reliever from us. We get a package of prospects centered around George Lombard Jr.
