2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Allen is the least of the Brave's problems... Harris and Ozzie are just as bad. Fixing them or replacing them is going to be just as important. I also said trading Ozuna and any BP piece for prospect capital to use in the offseason.. to possibly use for a SS/2B..

The pen is going to have to be addressed next year regardless.. better to dump as much as possible now and audition what the team has.
Allen is most certainly not the least of our worries.

And BP spare partz and the ghost of Ozuna aren't bringing anything of note that can used to bring in a starting caliber SS.

.312 OBP and plus plus defense at SS for close to league minimum. I will take that all day.
Allen exists in a quantized state where he represents both an obvious spot for upgrade and also a “problem” far down the list of troubles for the 2025 Braves.

My honest take on the Braves: they'll be fine. 2025 is a wash (and a wasted year), but the core is strong, money’s coming off the books, and they'll have a good draft spot. It's been a frustrating season, but I still trust AA to fill out the roster and keep the window open.

However, yes, trade whatever you can, help replinish the farm, and even look for guys who are available that can be helpful next season. A retool would be great.

There's nothing wrong with having Allen at the end of the bench as a defensive replacement or even starting at SS and hitting ninth in a heavy-hitting lineup where you can sacrifice a lineup spot for defense. He's a perfectly acceptable piece at a league minimum salary. That said, I suspect it would be easier to find a competent replacement at shortstop than it would be to get everyone else in the lineup hitting at a level that would justify an all-glove, no-bat shortstop in the ninth spot.

Exactly. He should be Rafael Belliard and instead he’d Walt Weiss without the 1998 Braves around him.

Yeah, Allen is not some glaring hole that once he's replaced by Correa the Braves will suddenly win 100 games. He's just the easiest place to upgrade because he's not signed long term, isn't expected to improve/rebound, and his area of value is very volatile. He belongs on the bench of a contender, not starting 150 games.

All the non-Murphy trade pieces will likely get guys who can be used next trade deadline to get the same type of rental the Braves are currently selling. They aren't going to alter the state of the system, but they represent ammunition...and something is better than nothing. In fact, the Braves could trade away the rentals, and then use that freed up payroll to take on expensive rentals from other teams trying to clear payroll...in exchange for additional prospects. This is the type of creative deadline moves I expect from a competent GM in the midst of a lost season.

While non-Murphy guys will only bring back future trade ammo, a Murphy trade would have to bring back a legit MLB option for 2026, or it makes no sense to trade him.

Players we will likely trade:

Bummer - expensive option for 2026. Solid reliever, but easily replaceable for cheaper. Won't bring much in return. But hopefully it's someone worth keeping on the 40 man.

Iggy - His recent performance is helping his value. He hasn't allowed an earned run since his implosion against AZ. Being a closer gives me a little more value than Bummer, but not much.

Rafael Montero - He'll be given away practically for free to whoever wants him. Not even for a lottery ticket type of return

Nick Allen - SS market is abysmal. He will have suitors given his defense. Might be able to get a lottery ticket or 2 for him.

Ozuna - Hopefully this time off has helped him heal and he can go on a tear leading up to the deadline. He should bring back a halfway decent prospect if he's hitting well.

Players we should trade but may not:

Sean Murphy - I've debated enough about it. He is our biggest trade chip. He can bring back a legitimate prospect haul. He needs to go.

Grant Holmes - I am not a believer that he is someone worth building around. He's pitching well enough at the moment that a team desperate for pitching might overvalue him and be willing to send us a good package of prospects.

I'll stick with my prediction that AA makes a move to add at the break. I'll stick with going after Correa. This move will help next season and put butts in the seats

Holmes has been excellent the first time through the order and isn't arbitration eligible until 2028. He'd likely be valuable to the Braves as a reliever if we plan on competing next season.

The key, as has been said, that trades be with an eye on next year more than on this year.

Only add guys who will make next year’s team better, or prospects who will improve the farm.

Nobody with the idea that they will help them make the playoffs this year.

Prince Albert should be added to the list. No reason to have a 35 year old 1 war pitcher making 7 million in 2026.. pay the rest of his 2025 salary and see what lottery tick you can get.

Holmes is interesting chip. I didn't realize he has 4+ years of control left. When used correctly he is actually a valuable member of a team.

He might be a good cheap piece to keep around with a competent manager.. that said, if a team wants to send a few prospects, he could return some value if you don't believe him being a 2+ win pitcher.

Should we trade Riley given his contract and performance trajectory?
Analytics aside, he's arguably the most popular Brave not named Acuna, being a good-looking country boy from the deep South. Add in the numbers he's already put up over the years and a stable force at 3B, and you'd have a LOT of fans highly upset if he were to be dealt away.
