I don't have strong feelings about this draft. Hard to have any idea what an athletic prep SS will become.

I will say I don't love going so far underslot early. It's our organizational philosophy but I feel like we miss out on some higher end guys because of it.

so question.. lets say the Braves sign everyone and have a million left over. They could theoretically go to an undrafted college commit and offer that as an undrafted FA, correct? Basically anything over 150K to draft FA goes against the pool is my understanding..

For example Jack Bauer.. he went undrafted.. highly touted player with a strong commit to M-state.

Theoretically, the Braves could go over. As of 2022, there will be no maximum on the signing bonus an undrafted player can receive, although any amount over $125,000 will count against a team’s bonus pool. So if these signings are that significantly below slot, it could happen. But I see no way the Braves go over to get a FA. But you never know.

I'm not all that excited about drafting college middle Infielders who seem to project as utility guys so it confuse me that folks think this was so much better than past drafts.

Oddly a pitcher is the highest upside draft it seems.

Huh? Picks 1 and 2 do not project as utility players. The two high schoolers (McKenzie and Essenburg) are top 100 talents to some evaluators. They will go big overslot for them. This is an incredibly intriguing draft.

The plan was to get 4 incredibly talented position prospects. Plus a few other intriguing guys

I just don’t see a team having the balls to save a million or so from the draft to try and entice a non drafted FA. Has that ever happened. That would be an extremely bold move. Seems like a better chance to blow up in your face because the kid would say no knowing his potential to make more in two years is pretty good.

There's a strict bonus limit for non-drafted players. I don't know the number off the top of my head, but I believe it's less than the basic amount of guys drafted between Rounds 11 and 20.

I think it is same as round 11-20 which is like 125 or something. But I thought it also played like those rounds that a team can spend whatever but any amount over that slotamount goes against The pool total.

I could be way wrong though. I also don’t think the Braves would do that. I don’t see any team trying that. It would look bad to have a mill and a half left over because the kid said nope.
