GDT 7-26: Marcell is Back

So we started with these pitchers in the rotation:
Chris Sale
Reynaldo Lopez
Spencer Schwellenbach
AJ Smith-Shawver
Grant Holmes
With Spencer Strider coming on

Rotation pitchers now:
Spencer Strider
Bryce Elder
Joey Wentz
?????

The Braves need to do everything they can to sign Cease in the offseason. Losing your SP the way we have the past 2 years is insane.

2 years in a row for major players is crazy. If Holmes does have to get TJ then the depth for next year just took a huge hit also. The amount of work AA has to do already in the offseason is overwhelming.
 
good news is Sale, Schwelly, Strider all should be healthy for next year... just bubble wrap them and get through this year...

time to try the kids...
 
I don’t know what they’ll do from here on out. It makes really no sense to have Sale, Lopez, or Schwellenbach to pitch any more this season. Can’t do a true bullpen game every five days because it’s far from a guarantee that the rotation guys will give you five innings a start. Even Strider is still trying to get all the way back. I’d rather, as I said earlier, keep Ritchie in AAA for more seasoning. But I don’t know what to do at this point. This is just insane. I’ve never seen anything like this with pitching injuries.
 
I just remembered something. Did anyone remember seeing Iglesias almost look like he was getting a bit snarky with Baldwin going to the dugout after the 9th?

My guess is we'll see Davis Daniel again (at least in the short term). It's few more days before we know how Fedde's DFA status plays out, but if he becomes a free agent, I could see him signing on at league minimum to finish out the year. Waldrep should also get some starts. I would wait on Ritchie given the team isn't going anywhere this year, but the Braves' front office clearly has a different approach on if/when to promote guys.
 
There is no need to ruin any kid's development. Bring back Daniel. Throw Jackson Stephens. Get Fedde. Call up Kyle Gibson and see if he wants to make a little more money to carry into retirement.
