GDT 8-6: Drake Baldwin's Day Off

I mean adding 2 legit bats, keeping players healthy, and having a competent manager could make a huge difference. But I don't hold a lot of faith those things will happen.
Were you adding the bats?

Profar
Harris
Acuna
Riley
SS
Ozzie
Olson
Murphy/drake
Dh

Obviously SS would be a key spot, but no way we win the Bichette sweepstakes. Same with Tucker. The team will be improved on the bench, which will help, but Ozzie and Harris have sunk this team. They won't be replaced

Profar needs to be back on the juice the second the offseason starts. Do a cycle or two, and then get off.

He has to dump Murph.. get what you can (we saw how well that went this past deadline).. Then he has to win at least one of the Tucker/Bichette sweepstakes. if he doesn't go Tucker then he needs to grab another bat for DH that can also sub in field occasionally.

If he can trade Murph, then he will have 100+ million to work with and he needs to read the tea leaves that if he runs this lineup back out there without significant upgrades then he will be run out of town and have a legacy of letting FF/Swanson/Fried walk while winning on the back of Coppy's players.

If I had to bet, I think he will be arrogant and think he can win again by adding around the edges again.. adding some BP depth and another middling starter.. and the pitch forks will be out by June with the team fighting to stay in 3rd place again.

I'll completely agree Matt. If that's what ends up happening then I'll swap sides immediately. AA is gonna be under a ton of pressure this offseason and he will no doubt win one of the Bichette/Tucker sweepstakes. If he can trade Murphy for a ready SS then he needs to go all in on Tucker. Acuna is gonna need to DH half the time for sure so the 2 C system won't be needed. Sale is gone I'm sure after next year so get another legit SP this offseason like Cease or King. Eli White is a good OF backup piece and Allen is a good backup SS so that's covered just need to get a legit C backup if Murph is traded. Profar is the main one I'd concentrate on moving. Eat half his salary and somebody will bite for 2 years.

yeah.. I will go into the offseason optimistic. hoping for the ROY and a really good draft.. but AA has to spend and get some legit players to plug some holes.. I think Harris will improve on this year. Ozzie I worry about but will see if the wrist was the issue. AA also needs to get a more analytical manager to lead this team.. not a robot, but someone who at least understands inputs and doesn't just look at counting stats. a true leader. which means no one that currently is in the dugout.

We need to find a solution to SS, even if it's just a temporary solution while we wait on Lodise or one of the other SS prospects to breakout. That has got to be the number 1 goal of the off-season. I still think Murphy for Masyn WInn makes a ton of sense for both teams. Also, I might see what Houston would take for Correa since Minny is covering a good bit of the contract already.

Then we need to find a quality SP. Ideally, we would just sign 2 of them instead of trading value prospects. This is a really deep SP class in FA. Lots of quality options to be had. My favorite option might be signing Woodruff to a high AAV contract on a short term deal. Maybe something like 3/90 with a 4 year option. He certainly won't get the 200+ million contract he was looking at before the injury.

I'm guessing there isn't much we can do for LF. I am pretty confident we aren't going to get into the Kyle Tucker bidding, which will probably end up being 300+ million. So, I feel like we are basically stuck with Profar in LF unless AA can get creative. I suppose if you are being optimistic, you can hope he can hit well enough to DH 75% of the time and we go find a real LFer on the trade market. It would be nice if Nacho could actually hit, then we could potentially move Riley to LF or move Nacho out there.

And lastly, we need RP help in a big way. Don't do any crazy contracts or trade top prospects for one, but we should bring in at least 2 reliable guys on short term deals. Hopefully the plan is to keep Holmes and Lopez in the pen for now on where they can be major weapons and be stretched out in the event one of the starters goes down.

These guys must be tired too. There are only three games today and Braves have to play one of them. They missed their day off on Sunday and I cant remember their last off-day. Plus a double-header in the upcoming series.

If AA just got rid of Profar it would be a big first step toward regaining some good will. He’d also have to replace him with an actual upgrade, but I’m confident he could that rather easily, and hopefully a substantial one.

Profar is at a .768 OPS since coming back from suspension. And he's doing it with a .264 BABIP and a .200 ISO. Hopefully he continues to hit relatively well, cause the defense is absolute trash.

Profar at 2/14 would be appealing to somebody but AA is weird about eating money. If we traded for one I like Duran in Boston bc he can play all 3 OF spots. He got rid of Soler pretty quick last year and didn't eat money so who knows with Profar but we don't need him.

I know I've talked about Masyn Winn a lot as the ideal trade candidate for SS, but I also like JP Crawford, who I mentioned last winter. The Mariners have like a bazillion SS prospects on the FG top 100 right now and Crawford is entering the last year on his deal, so they could look to move him and go younger at SS. Unfortunately, their primary need is hitting and our only real hitting asset is Murphy. We'd have to get a 3rd team involved most likely.

and there is the out... 'how the market shakes out' translation. we are only going to spend if the player signs a team friendly deal that allows Terry to continue play real estate mogul.. already hear the stories.. Braves interested in X big name.. AA in spring, we really wanted X big name and we almost had a deal done, but the market didn't fall where we wanted.' Welcome back Christian Pache as a pivot.

It's annoying bc it's so predictable. Everybody and their momma knows AA has shit the bed the past year and being the 4th worst team in baseball leaves a big black eye. That will probably push them to bring in one big player and right now SS is the biggest hole and I could see Bichette being their main target and trade for an OF bat like Buxton.

I am now starting feel that Terry McDork might be the problem, not AA..Dude just wants to play real estate tycoon and is probably restricting AA from signing anything worth a crap.
