GDT #37: May 12, 2014 Braves (Floyd) @ Giants (Lincecum)

I'm hoping this thread is able to appropriately honor Laird's presence in the middle of the lineup. It does not happen every night. I call on everyone to give us their biggest effort.

I like Pena in the 9 hole.
I think we might actually score some runs tonight! First beer cracked in preparation.

It is worth noting that we have not had a single whine tonight about Gattis' absence from the lineup. We are off to a swimming start.

I guarantee that he'll come up big tonight. We know that, as a veteran leader, his opinion already carries immense weight with this team, and he's just bursting with baseball knowledge. Tonight we'll see just how much weight he carries. He may not put the fat part of the bat on the ball every time, but you just know that he plays hungry.

Beats Uggla in the 7 hole.

So Frank tells me to find a hole to put Uggla in and to keep him there, right? And six weeks later he tells me that he didn't mean a lineup spot. I mean, come on, Mr. General Manager! Don't be so damned cryptic next time.

He does play hungry.

My fondest memory of Laird is him reaching down to grab some dirt before throwing out Dee Gordon in the playoffs last year. He is the biggest smartest old he coon out there. A little scrawny guy like Dee Gordon had no chance against Laird.
