GDT 9-14: Astros at Braves Finale

Olson has batted 2nd most of the year so his mindset could change a little to get on base to let others drive you in. His batting average is way up from usual. He could still end the year and 30 homers. But yeah he's the best 1b in baseball.

By what metric? He's certainly top 5.

Who's a better all around 1b?? Your hate always clouds your judgement. You start these same arguments every time and regardless you always see the glass as half empty.
2nd in fWAR
1st in def value
4th in off value
4th in wrc+
7th in xwoba
4th in woba
9th in iso

Top 5, not #1. In what world is top 5 at his position an insult?

Olson is 2nd among 1b in fWAR. Since the start of 2023, he is also 2nd behind Freddie.

Honestly, there is just a lack of elite 1b in the league now with Freddie and Goldy hitting their decline stage. I thought Vlad Jr would be that next one, but aside from 2021, he's been more really good than elite. Harper has also entered his decline stage too.

2023 was a record breaking season and the best he will ever have. Expecting that to be the norm is wild.

I guess being the best 1B in baseball isn't good enough for you.
When did I say I expect it as the norm? 2023 is what i define as "very good/great" offensively. This season is defined as "good", and in case you didn't know (and yall don't seem to), "good" is a good thing.

Why are you rattling off a ton of different offensive stats when you just need 1 which encompasses them all?

2nd in fWAR and 1st in bWAR is all you need to know though.

I get labels don't really mean much. But his 2023 was literally historic and record breaking for the Braves. So I'd put it a step up from very good/great.

That being said. He's still the top 1B in the game by metrics that matter.

We differ in that I think 1b offense is more important than 1b defense. Now a total butcher certainly changes things, but give me better offense over better defense.

There are handful of guys who have a slightly better offensive profile this year. It really isn't enough to argue about. Especially when he's far and away the best defender.

I want the player who brings the most value.

You literally have posted Olson's vs Freeman's fWAR daily for years now when it benefited your argument. Now that it doesn't you just ignore these basic facts.

Vlad is the only 1B you can argue is better than Olson this year and it's a fair one.

And yall argued with me then that the fWAR difference between the 2 was base running, which benefited your argument

People let their views get skewed because AA got them in a move he shouldn’t have made. Murphy is a really good catcher, but people act like he’s terrible because AA should’ve never traded Contreras to get him. And you could argue that AA should’ve just given Freeman the 6th year and been done with it instead of trading assets for Olson (even if Freeman holds the most culpability in that situation). For some reason, people hold these decisions against the players.

If one of us went back in time to March and told this board Olson was going to post 4+ fWAR every single one of us would have been ecstatic and assumed the Braves were sailing into the playoffs.

Not if we also knew that 2nd place among position guys was 2.2 fWAR and Harris was sporting a 0.6 fWAR in 147 games.

Harris has a 74 wrc+ and .258 obp. He can't be counted on next season

Harris trend line with wrc+...

2023: 1st half - 94, 2nd half - 135 wrc+
2024: 1st half - 81, 2nd half - 125 wrc+
2025: 1st half - 47, 2nd half - 119 wrc+

He's basically a half a season guy, and it's the short half
