Just a bit of light-hearted fun, but I will say, if you don’t think the far left wing of the Democratic Party hasn’t recognized that enormous taxes, condemnation of corporations seeking profits and the government taking financial stakes in private businesses are all being supported by the mainstream Republican Party because they’re being presented as MAGA instead of socialism, you’re terribly naive.
I’d be more amicable to this argument if they were actually trying something new and not the same exact things we’ve seen fail both in America and abroad since the dawn of markets.

I actually know a couple of guys who moved from GA to the Bay Area for massive pay increases at one of those pioneering companies that draws the positive migration of young well educated people. They were surprised to need to split the apartment they’re renting with a third party to be able to afford it. I felt bad for them, they’re nice guys. Fortunately, they’re planning to move back soon so they can afford their own homes again.

This is a take that should be more common. Like Reagan’s trickle down plan, it doesn't need to, and shouldn’t, be a permanent solution. It’s a shock to the system to reset things in a more favorable way.

The issue is that too many people have either experienced that building nearby already, or known someone who has. It’s not a pleasant experience. Most of us buy homes based on factors that a make an area “safe” or “quiet” or “in a good school district.” But those things basically all mean the same thing, that the people who will be occupying the “affordable housing” aren’t nearby.
Then suddenly some affordable house pops up around the corner or a couple of homes on your street become rentals, and you get guys rolling up to their girls house with bass rattling your walls and lay down on their horn to let the girl know to come out. They’ll be back at 1 AM to rattle your walls again. Then mom and a boyfriend are screaming profanity at each other in the driveway the next day, drunk grandma is screaming profanity at pregnant granddaughter in the driveway a couple of days later, you can’t chill in your front yard because the cloud of marijuana smoke turns your stomach, your kids tell you about all the fights that started happening at school, your kids get to follow ridiculous new rules at school designed to keep feral kids under control since our society doesn’t let those kids be dealt with more effectively, repo men are knocking at your door looking for your neighbor and their car, three deputies roll in so two can go calm down the domestic disturbance and the third can come ask you if you witnessed anyone being violent to anyone else, etc.
And if you don’t take it all in with a smile and ask for more, you’re either a racist or lack empathy, depending on the skin color of the people degrading your quality of life. I don’t want anyone on the street, but I also made a really long commute for a long time so my kids wouldn’t have to be associated with that stuff. It managed to find them lately anyway.
