This actually touches on a point I find interesting though. I was watching some video the other day where someone asked how many people need to believe something is tyranny or be in a well-regulated militia before they are justified in using their 2nd Amendment rights to stand up to a tyrannical government. Sure, I would certainly argue this isn’t the time to take up arms. But if the 2A exists ostensibly for that reason, when do the citizens get to use that right? And if we can’t ever justifiably use that right within society, what is the actual point of the 2nd Amendment?

But obviously you and I both know that would have just resulted in the deaths or arrests of a lot of people. So if we can’t meaningfully use the 2nd Amendment in times where about half the country thinks there’s tyranny, when can we? And if we can’t ever, is the 2nd Amendment being misinterpreted or is it pointless for what it’s intended for?

It would be for a legitimate civil war

It would also be for circumstances where the cops.come to your house to arrest you for wrong thing. The theory at least is that they dont do that for fear being killed

But in both of those cases, we’ve already legislated our way out of allowing for it.

The only thing that make something a legitimate civil war instead of an insurrection is the success of that venture and the amount of state power involved. If you try to instigate one, you’ll just be killed or arrested for treason.

Likewise, even if a cop enters your home in the dead of night to arrest you for a crime you did not commit, you can still be sent to prison for life for defending yourself with a gun.

So if you can’t legally defend yourself from the military or police with a firearm, how are we actually upholding the intent of the 2nd Amendment?
