Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Must be nice to be so rigid and unwilling/unable to adapt to new facts that you can just hold wrong ideas in perpetuity.

Again - the difference between those with “knowledge” and those with “intelligence”.
This would be a fantastic reply if one were able to articulate why these ideas are wrong, what new facts require an overhaul of those ideas, and most importantly, why MAGA’s old ideas (see: mercantilism) are what will save us.

Sorry, “healthcare experts were wrong during COVID, therefore we’re free to discard any/all expertise at our discretion” isn’t convincing.

I can’t help the guy that can’t admit 2019 wa a fantastic economy and somehow says the ideas failed because of the PLANdemic

It is easy to have a "fantastic economy" while blowing a hole in federal finances. Lest anyone forget:

US federal deficit (as percentage of GDP in parentheses)

2016 $585B (3.1%)
2017 $665B (3.4%)
2018 $779B (3.8%)
2019 $985B (4.6%)

What do the ones here who deny the reality of 2020 think about the number of plainclothes agents at the capitol on J6. Why that many?

Kill him!!!
Lost in this manufactured outrage about all the fascists the left is trying to get killed now is two things:

1) The right calls people fascists all the damn time too.

2) The left has called a ton of people fascists who have not been killed.

There’s a massive disconnect right now between what the right is claiming about political violence against people being called fascists and the reality of it. What happened to Kirk was a tragedy but they’re taking an isolated incident and extrapolating it to there being a team of assassins waiting for their next target.

We have posters who routinely call people they disagree with commies or mentally ill or both. Or haters of America. And a president who has introduced "enemies of the people" into our lexicon.

Then why are the killers all leftists? Glossing over that piece of the puzzle is disingenuous.
There’s just not that many killers targeting fascists. I don’t even have to go into whether or not you’re right that only leftists are committing violence because the number is just very low. It’s like pretending we have an epidemic of healthcare CEOs getting murdered.

Also, Stephen Miller is basically the poster boy for fascism. I think he probably gets an erection at the thought of doing some state-sponsored violence. It’s his whole shtick.

Yeah, but that’s fine because their audience is 100% not deranged and violent, so only they can say whatever they want and you’re a mentally ill commie who shouldn’t be allowed to have rights if you disagree.

Can’t wait till he’s vp for Vance.

We’ve got a lot of people on both sides who think catastrophizing and escalating their language makes their arguments more effective and displays their righteousness.

It doesn’t.

I mean NYC is about to elect a communist. Shouldn't not call him a communist?

Kamala was the same way

I think if people self describe themselves as “democratic socialists” and advocate for things like government run grocery stores, it’s fine to call them out for what they are.

I’m talking more about this tendency to call every run of the mill D a commie. And every run of the mill R a fascist. Something can’t be simply be bad policy, it must be evidence of a globalist takeover. A riot must be an insurrection. Someone with no real ideology, but with authoritarian impulses, must be a Nazi. Not voting for a candidate is insufficient; you must be full throated in your rejection with all the right reasons. It’s just a never ending escalation of stakes.

But I think it’s somewhat important to call out that the right is generally not trying to have a nuanced discussion about the pitfalls of Mamdani’s economic policies when they call him a Marxist or a Communist. It’s meant instead to invoke the Gulags, Stalin and Mao and their brutal repression of their citizens. Hell, many of the same people criticizing state-run grocery stores are openly celebrating the government’s potential ROI on its stake in Intel and insisting that tariffs are an important step to increase domestic wages. So while I think it’s absolutely worthwhile to call out economic illiteracy in all its forms, I don’t take much stock in the argument that it’s inciting violence to label your opponent a fascist but not a Marxist. They’re both just using political buzzwords to make their base demonize the other side.

It should be noted that the president of the united states is the catastrophizer in chief. Has peddled racist lies implying one of his predecessors is not American. He and his vice president have peddled lies about dark skinned immigrants eating the cats and dogs of Americans. And of course the stuff about enemies of the people. But hey other politicians do bad stuff do. Let's make sure we have the right balance and equivalence.
