MadduxFanII once stated that he does not lament The Adam Wainwright trade, and this is his thread to expound and expand!!

favorite part was Patio having two usernames.

One was PatioDaddio the other was WilliamJames.

He switched to the James one after everyone left and said it was because of him. And he tried to pretend to me a new person as James lol

I vaguely recall everyone migrating over to Hawk’s board at some point. I forget the entire chronology.

To be fair to the traditionalists. *whispers* They were kinda right about Adam Dunn

There were two major events.

The first was when all the trolls like Blaren, grissom96 were making the quality of the board unbearable, and Shanks ignored it for months. I made a temporary board and Shanks got pissed then banned me whilst telling everyone to come back.

Things were fine for a few years.

NLDS Infield Fly game is when Patio went off the deep end, MikeAdams threw in the towel.

Patio banned everyone. We went to the invisionfree boards for a few months until I opened the vBulletin ChopCountry in 2013. Most memorable most-thanked post that season was Dalyn or jpx commenting that Gattis hit a "bloop slam".

After everyone migrated here that season, it's been a slow death for our community since. Semi-private forums like these are just a dying breed. Everything is on twitter/tiktok/reddit/facebook now.
In this case, it feels like when this community gets smaller it’s because folks are literally dying. I think the fact that I know the reason someone doesn’t post anymore is because they passed away is a good enough reason to stick around.

Am I the only one who experienced a Patio crash out well before all of that stuff went down? He threatened me in a PM back in 2003-2004.
He def threatened me way before becoming Admin. Certainly not as far back as you. But I recall some form of "you're a baby" kind of PM.

I just remember it was on the Scout platform and I don't know if Scout is still around. I think it got absorbed by another company. Can't remember the name of the site. Easily could have been BravesCenter.
I feel like it was Braves Center when it was Kyle Hawkins running it but then became something else under Shanks. Shanks was funny when he got up his ass. I remember being sold on Jojo Reyes and I told him and his "insiders" they were full of shit. Jojo Reyes was so untalented. Everyone was talking about all the movement from his fastball and I said for a lefty it was straight as an arrow and people need to learn about TV camera angles.

Right. But just forums overall are dying.

Discord is probably the bigger forum replacement.

This thread made me realize how long I've been hanging around these boards. My earliest memories of joining the Shanks board was 2005 NLDS. I literally followed along to the 18 inning playoff game against the Astros for the entire game thread. Sad to see message boards like this dying out. You can't really get the same sense of community anywhere else.

Dunn's kind of an interesting case study when you look back at him with the benefit of hindsight. People like me were certainly guilty of overrating him when he first came up. Part of that was because the stathead ethos at the time was all about assembling a slow pitch softball team -- defense didn't matter, baserunning didn't matter, strikeouts didn't matter. I also don't think anyone really predicted just how worthless a defender Dunn would become -- he was a pretty good athlete when he first came up (he famously signed with Texas as a high school quarterback), he stole 19 bases his second year, and his advanced defensive stats were at least sort of respectable for a few years. And at a very basic level he just never became the hitter we expected -- nothing at all wrong with a career 124 OPS+, but I think there were expectations that he might be 1.000 OPS guy from time to time. Instead he had a couple of peak years that were supposed to be his average season.

I think it was called the Braves Show…

And as for the idea that forums like these are dying- the other forums I visit - college football teams- seem to actually be growing - and are extremely active ….

I think this board is awesome as is - the dues are too high though. And Cy’s mom gave me the clap again.

The best part there was not one exodus but 2. First exodus was when SAV was banned for some bullshit when Shanks owned the site, but the mass exodus that went forever happened when patio took over and started banning people. I remembered SAV's old board and started inviting people over there and then SAV did all the real work working on getting better boards.

Like, thinking back, there's people who I"ve been shooting the shit with here for just over 20 years. Way back in the day when my name was Ortizsux because I hated Russ Ortiz (I think 99% of my discussions were how overrated he was, I was a shithead in highschool) then came the rumors of the As selling and I went all in on Zito. And I think if my memory is correct Tim Hudson was mentioned as untradable so I assumed it was Zito or Mulder, and I liked Zito more.

It's wild how the site fell apart the all time lowlight had to be the time Patio was talking about he and guys at his golf club or something watching the game and saying they were laughing at our "stupidity" when I think the majority of the peopel who he thought were stupid were largely right.

Also I remember being sad I was so right about Kris Medlen's arm. I remember watching him pitch and thinking how short his career would be as a starter because he was all arm.
I recall Patio making some BS thread about how his "friend" got access to his count and it was his friend who was acting so crazy and banning people. LOL classic.

Was that TallahasseeBravo?
Yup, that was him. Hated Adam Dunn with a passion.

To his credit, Dunn was indeed historically bad defensively. Since advanced defensive stats have been tracked, only Matt Kemp produced a lower DRS with at least 5000 innings played in the OF. I didn't give much credence to defensive stats back then. I don't think most people did.

I do wonder how Dunn's career might have been perceived had he been switched to 1b/DH a lot earlier in his career.

Does that Shanks board still exist? I can't even remember the name of it. BravesCenter?
I last recall it was AtlantaDugout or something like that when it transitioned away from Scout. I don't recall what it was on the Scout forums.

I think I saw your SN on Volnation pop up. I assumed it was likely you.
