Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I played pickleball with a mexican/us citizen last night

his family lives at a border town. He has friends in ice, border patrol, and illigal citizens

hes a liberal. Doesnt like trump. Voted for kamala

But says everyone on those border towns, Mexican or not, are hard-core trumpers bc hes the first president who actually tries to do something about the inflow.

He says 75% of crossings are hard working people trying to make it. But 25% is a lot when you let in millions. Says his parents say its scary seeing random men running across their yards on a daily basis. Has ruined their quality of life

Interesting perspective
Coincidentally, also works for Lululemon. Says the tarrifs are killing them, and they are raising prices to help offset

i actually like these anecdotes

but

i am waiting for a single poster (including myself) who posts an anecdote that runs counter to their beliefs

I bet the percentage of illegal crossings is even higher than 75% good hard working people. Mexican culture is fantastic and certainly much closer to American culture than many other countries.

But you’re right in that it really is a problem caused by magnitude. Imagine a world where border crossings were zero and we could issue work visas to Mexican that we can vet (someone needs to change nsacpi’s diapers). The excuse for years was that border enforcement was a waste of time and resources, and it seems that excuse has been debunked this year.

He also thinks the extremism is way farther on the right and Trump is the first president to become overtly authoritarian

I didn't say the dude was smart

Its the issue with all migration - At scale the underbelly destroys the host nation.

thanks for sharing that....i think he is right and that it requires blinders not to see it

Jared did amazing work over there before Joe Biden stepped in it. He is not Hunter Biden. He didn't marry\impregnate his dead brothers wife.

They gave him money to manage, not a gift from what I've read.

As in- like they'll want it back.

Acting like Hunter and Jared’s situation is similar is the same energy as the people say political terrorism is a “both sides” issue.

You’re right, at least Biden had the good sense to not put his family in charge of officially dealing with the countries he was doing business with.

A government shut down is such a colossal global fuck up that I find it silly to even consider blaming it on the Democrats specifically. What an immensely stupid system we have created wherein the entire government has to be funded at once in a mega bill that nobody even reads. Even if we didn’t go scorched earth and make them do line item votes on all spending, it seems actively insane that power is so concentrated to the leaders of the caucuses that ten senators from either side couldn’t just strike some minor (hopefully beneficial, but lol probably awful) deal that would allow them to vote for the bill. Why even elect a specific Senator if Chuck Schumer, John Thune, Hakeem Jeffries and Mike Johnson get to control all the levers? Just replace Senators with a Vote for The Left or Right Buttons at this point. It’d even save money!

No it’s that kushner can actually generate value while Hunter was a negative in every aspect of his life. But something so simple appears difficult for you to understand.

How about something as simple as it’s still kind of bad that the President’s son-in-law who he previously appointed Head of Everything, but especially the Middle East, has ended up with literal billions of dollars in investments from the insanely rich royal families in the Middle East that also just so happen to be showering Trump with gifts and investment guarantees, while also still making deals with that same son-in-law for business interests that could be seen as personally beneficial to the President, who by the way is the sole decider of our foreign trade policy, and has a massive meme coin that any foreign national could rather trivially launder money through?

But hey, I’ll cede the fact that Jared is a more competent person to do business with than a cocaine addict. I just don’t see how we’re supposed to be cool with *this* much money being thrown around the President’s family from the oppressive oil barons he previously worked with in an official government capacity.

Ah so successful business people have money and associate with other successful business people and this somehow offends you. Then there is whatever the hell Hunter was doing and all the while you basically amounted to a “so what” level of care

But sure - now you care.
