SO..What will be the name of the new stadium?

Sidenote, but can someone share the story of how our current stadium was named Turner Field? Obviously I know he was owner at the time, but is that a yearly agreement with Turner or did he pay for the stadium to build it?

When Olympic Stadium was converted to a baseball stadium, before the days of Derek Schiller and Mike Plant, the Braves did try to shop the naming rights but the offers were less than attractive despite the Braves run of success. Instead of opting for a lump sum payment which was deemed unsatisfactory, the Braves decided to name it Turner Field after Ted as the then current owner. No payment was made, and there is no naming rights deal ongoing. In other words, any revenue from a naming rights deal (which will happen with the new stadium) will be 100% incremental and additive to the Braves current revenue model since no current revenue stream exists for same. Current market for naming rights is roughly between $10-25M per year, but that number may significantly escalate in the coming years due to the revenue growth in baseball and the potential for brand competition at the new stadium (i.e., do you think Coca Cola will allow Pepsi to buy the naming rights without a fight?)

I'd expect a $200-250M, 10 year naming rights deal, to be frank.

I could see Georgia Pacific being a candidate. My early guess is UPS Stadium/Park/Field. I figure since UPS's main rival in the shipping business, FedEx, has naming rights to the Redskins stadium and the Memphis Grizzlies arena, they would like to get into the stadium naming business.

It boils down to UPS or Coca Cola IMO.

Both are the biggest two companies HQ'd in Atlanta (aside from Suntrust), and as far as I know neither currently sponsor any stadium or arenas.

Home Depot already has naming rights to a soccer field in LA I think. As long as it's not Coke Field... lol.

Complaint's Field (ed? ..and ignored???)... Just because the team has moved, doesn't mean the complaints about the team will stop! (Especially if a few posters from this board attend games)

...Might as well recognize that in the name!

I'm with Crimson and KL on this one. It just makes sense to go with the big companies like Coke/UPS/Suntrust. Suntrust may be a slight dark horse but still can't be ignored. The play on words could work well for UPS (UPS Grounds) Coca-Cola Park is possible but I see them sponsoring something like a party deck or plaza. Suntrust Stadium? Maybe but they too might be more inclined to sponsor a stadium club or seating section. If the Braves are smart then they squeeze out as much as possible in naming rights for the different sections of the ballpark and then naming one of the plazas in honor of Hank Aaron.

My money is on UPS getting the deal done since they aren't in the stadium name game as much as they're competition.

Frankly I could care less about the name, but it needs a retractable roof. Eliminate rainouts period. For those of us that have to really travel it would be nice to gaurantee baseball.
