Economics Thread

I think Trump has done well in areas outside of tariffs that’s reflected in the markets. Specifically, his administration is very AI and energy friendly and has either signaled or follow through on cutting regulations. The market has welcomed that.
Let’s hope no leaders in those industries call Trump fat or make fun of his hair or this can all unravel in a hurry

What do you think would happen to the markets if today Trump team announced “baseline tariffs in all countries are now 0”?

I'm anti-Trump, but tbh even I would say the answer atm is probably "not much," but I have some good reasoning behind why.

I don't think it's likely vol spends much time under 15 with his mercurial nature. There were other points this year where a big pop could've happened, but not as of now.

BTW: for the "strong economy" thesis to have basis, regional banks and homebuilders shouldn't have rolled in September. It's not showing because tech is being ridiculous, but in some ways, markets have been slowing.

The part that calls trade “partner” out for their nonsense.

It’s ok - you’ll still be bitching about process when the economy is roaring scratching your head as to how could this happen.
He’s been calling them the 51st state for almost a year. We shouldn’t be affecting US and Canadian businesses because the President had his feelings hurt.

There are interviews from the ‘90s where Trump is talking about the need to level the global playing field for American businesses. The idea that he just came up with the idea as a path to quick revenue is silly. The idea that the tariff imposed on another country should be affected by a TV commercial or whatever is sillier.
