New Manager Discussion

I can agree with this. I’m going to see what the team will look like and see if they can stay relatively healthy before I call this a failure
You know what it's going to look like...Expect more with less...Some reclamation projects in the bullpen and a black hole at SS...Pitching could be ok if any of those pussies don't get hurt.

For me, Lehmann was the only option that rose above the rest, so this non-Lehmann outcome is disappointing.

I'm pretty meh on Weiss specifically, but can I honestly say this is a worse outcome than a guy like Flaherty of Lombard? I cannot.

My realistic hope is that Weiss can be a Rob Thomson type. Older guy who's more on the stoic side, but - for my money - is a good manager. He's not a Luddite when it comes to managing the bullpen and commands respect from the players.

A guy plugged in pretty deep with the minors system says he’s been told Weiss is one of the closest members of the organization with Ronald. That might be a slight redeeming point for him. But meh.

Only reason I can think it took this long is if Lehman wasn't interested/interview didn't go well.
I doubt Lehmann would have interviewed poorly unless an old schmuck like McGuirk was just not on board at all. More likely is he's been offered an absurd amount to stay with the Dodgers and be manager in waiting or the Padres are eyeing him.

Yeah Roberts has been managing for a while. Already solidified his HOF credentials as a manager.

This could be one of those Schumaker being the manager in waiting thing... but with Lehmann it's probably understood behind closed doors.

Only thing I could think of is they wanted to wait post-WS to interview Lehmann. AA probably reached out since they have worked together previous, Lehmann probably told him confidentially he's been offered to stay with LAD when Roberts calls it quits (he's still pretty young so he probably is fine waiting another few years).

In regards to Weiss... I hope being in the organization the last 8 years and being around some analytics has change his tune somewhat from his COL managing days where he was openly against analytics.

One of the silver linings is when AA arrived, the analytics department only had 3 people in it. Since AA took over it's somewhere around 20+ people now. Let's hope Weiss isn't stubborn and is open to doing different things.
