2025-2026 offseason thread

I like Kinley, but he always felt like a toss-up. $5.5M isn’t nothing — that’s solid money you could put toward a real impact arm. His second half was great, but it’s been an outlier in his career. If we’re actually broke, I might jump off a bridge.

Yeah I am completely ok with not paying Kinley 5.5 million. I also would not be completely surprised if Kinley ended up having to take less that that figure no matter where he signs. Kinley's 2nd half was a bit of a mirage. Mediocre K rate. xFIP of 4.26.

It's definitely an outlier among his career.

I could see the Braves bringing him back on a smaller or two-year ~$8M deal. But since AA’s already said SS, SP and RP are priorities, he’s not cutting a bullpen arm unless he’s confident he can upgrade.

I didn't quite get the Tyler Kinley acquisition last year, so fine with moving on. Stuff like this doesn't matter a lot, but it's frustrating. He's a low-leverage RHRP who doesn't go multiple innings, has no options, and is not a RH specialist. I see him as redundant with Pierce Johnson, and feel that PJ is both a better pitcher and a great clubhouse guy.

Thank god... that pen was a collection of garbage junk ballers. Hopefully this signals they are going to go get real relievers now.

I personally don't think these declines are about money and more about space on the roster. You can't give a guy as dumb as twit and twit jr. relievers like prince albert and Kinley to pitch in the highest leverage situation because it is the 7th inning.

Interesting. I'm guessing one of Pierce or Kinley will be re-signed, or they will use this money to chase an elite reliever. The depth was tested last year, and that's with a healthy Iggy. Now, no Iggy, Pierce, or Kinley, and Joe Jimenez is still recovering. If they can shed Bummer's salary, that's around $21M to play with. It's just odd that they were struggling with depth last year, so we're shedding that now...

One thing I'll say, AA wasn't kidding about making legitimate changes.

Lol, what? No one is emotional, buddy. But I guess when you get called out you have to deflect.
You'll have to excuse the board for thinking this
Jesus. Can we not jump to the worst possible conclusion based on not paying Tyler fucking Kinley 5.5 million dollars?
Was an overly emotional response.

Nothing about the early offseason suggests AA has the $100M we were hoping, and given the awful offseason last year it's fair to start worrying.

So please, be sure to let us all know when it's ok to wonder if AA has less money than we hoped. Until then we will just sit back and cheer on all the non-moves being made like good little boot lickers.

“Overly emotional response”. Buddy, you’re crying over nothing. Just like you did when you found out the Braves hired Hefner before taking 5 minutes to look at the Mets B-Ref page.

I am shocked but I think this is a combination of a few things. I think they like some of the prospects we have at AAA and think some of them can fill some spots in the pen. We have a lot of spots filled with guaranteed contracts we have little fluidity to do shenanigans with call ups. And I think while normally having relievers locked up short term is a bonus AA will be looking at spending money on short term contracts. So we might be at 260-270 million in payroll but it will be mostly money that comes off the books after 26.

I didn't understand a bunch of the late-season moves in/out. Seems like they were auditioning a bunch of guys. Roster was going to be at 41 when all the 60-day DL guys are reinstated, so there will be shedding of guys and there are candidates more likely than Kinley to be shown the door, but those guys aren't set to make $5.5 MM.

Oh, I’m a “boot-licker” now, huh? Despite the fact that I’ve been pretty critical of AA over the last couple years and critical of the Weiss hire
