So You Want To "Fix" 2B

Exactly. If they want to maximize his value they could get a possible #1/#2 type starter for him now. Minor a solid #2 guy now and Boston probably would make that deal. Now the Braves on the other hand probably wouldn't which I don't think is smart especially if Minor doesn't want to sign a reasonable extension.

Boston typically shys away from LH pitchers. And I know about Lester, just saying that LHers are not high on their wish list.

Since the Sox dont necessarily need pitching, what would you offer them for Betts or a package?

This past off season they were looking for a RH OFer. Would Sizemore and Betts interest you in moving JUp?

I'd do it. That would balance out our lineup even if Sizemore goes down we'd be fine.

Lineup:

Grady Sizemore - LF

Mookie Betts - 2B

Freddie Freeman - 1B

Evan Gattis - C

Jason Heyward - RF

Chris Johnson - 3B

B.J. Upton - CF

Andrelton Simmons - SS

If the Braves could get this kid for Alex Wood that would be an absolute STEAL! Heck I'd even trade Mike Minor for him. He could solve the LO and 2B problem.

So lets say the Braves trade Mike Minor for Betts and then trade Dan Uggla and 5 mil to Toronto for a C prospect. That then could free up more cash to sign Santana to a long term deal and it would allow Wood to start again.

Lineup:

Mookie Betts - 2B

Jason Heyward - RF

Justin Upton - LF

Freddie Freeman - 1B

Evan Gattis - C

Chris Johnson - 3B

B.J. Upton - CF

Andrelton Simmons - SS

Rotation:

Julio Teheran - RHP

Erving Santana - RHP

Alex Wood - LHP

Gavin Floyd - RHP

Aaron Harang - RHP

Looks nice for this year, sure... but, would be a disaster for years to come. Our rotation next year would be Teheran and Wood in that scenario... and we would be force to fill with Hale and..? Sure, we would have some money to spend... but, I don't like leaving 3 holes in the rotation after just one year that all need to be filled at once.

Also, Betts is just a prospect... not proven. A ton of People on here still want TLS up, and he was having a great year last year... this year, not so much. I hope he turns it around... but, I don't think you trade a 'proven' arm like Minor (and deplete our rotation both this year and next) for a unproven prospect, when it isn't likely he will put the team over the top immediately.

Their Top Prospect is a LHP. This is the final year for Peavy and Lackey in Boston and although they have some good prospects coming up they would need some good veteran pitching to bridge the gap to these guys and Minor would be a good fit there.

Weeks apparently "fixed" his swing in the offseason and made some changes. He's slashing 333/396/375....so no power yet but I'm sure MIL doesn't want much for him since he isn't their starter.

Makes no difference unless Milwaukee would take Uggla back in the deal - Weeks is making $11 million this year, and has a vesting option for next year that will cost another $1 million to buy out.

I'm also not particularly interested in any player that's not willing to change positions to help a team that's contending - the Brewers asked Weeks to play some LF last week to keep his bat in the lineup and he said no.

In my scenario the Braves would use the funds saved from trading Minor and Uggla to resign Santana. So a starting rotation of Teheran, Santana, Wood, Hale and Medlen/Beachy/Martin/Schlosser/Graham/Hursh/Northcraft would be just fine next year.

I disagree. Even if Santana is resigned, I am not sure how Hale will be over a full season. On top of that, Meds and Beachy are surely not going to be ready for the start of the season... and how much can you count on either of them after their 2nd TJ? ... and I think it would be a mistake to have Hale and another rookie (assuming Hale is still considered one) in the rotation, to go along with Wood who is still very young himself (Teheran is too, but more experienced).

Even with signing Santana, to me, it leaves too many holes that I am not comfortable throwing all young guys/rookies or pitchers coming off 2nd TJs into.

This is not Lackey's last year and I would be willing to bet my first born's head that you will never see 3 LH starters in Bostons rotation til the green monster comes down.

I don't think it would be very wise to trade a guy like Minor or Wood for a 2B prospect that is currently riding an insane hot streak until the organization sees what TLS can bring to the table. Even if TLS is only half as valuable as Betts over the next 5-6 years, it still isn't worth giving up Minor or Wood for that upgrade.

Now, if the front office determines that Minor is gone the second he hits FA, the scenario gets a lot more interesting. At that point I would agree that a player like Betts is EXACTLY the type of return Wren needs to be targeting before he just let's players walk away via FA.

1-1 with a 2B, SB #19, and 4 BBs yesterday.

4 BBs

When was the last time our entire offense walked 4 times in a game???

If Mookie Betts is so good why did the Sox spend a prorated 14 million on Drew?

Seriously though won't mind the kid, he's obviously got skills. I'm just not willing to part with Wood or Minor for him.If we could work out like Peraza and a few prospects not names Lucas Sims or Christian Bethancourt for him I'd be for it. But I'm not willing to trade a major league player for him.

Bethancourt for Betts would be a trade I'd consider. Going into the season they're regarded as about equals as prospects. Accounting for Betts's uptick and Bethancourt's down then swap in another prospect.

Braves record with Dan Uggla starting: 19-11
Braves record without Dan Uggla starting: 7-9

Obviously Uggla isn't the reason for 19-11 record, but let's not pretend the other options are any better.

So what you're saying is it's better to die of cancer than it is to die of Lyme's disease.

Red Sox are moving Betts to CF.

To be clear I am not nor have been an Uggla fan for a couple years now
But that is what I was talking about when I mentioned "chemistry" when trying to think like FG etal.

If a team is winning -- let it win. Regardless the individual pieces

Actually they're going to get him experience at all 3 OF spots. Has nothing to do with his defense - simply may be the only way he ever sees MLB time on their roster.

BTW Zito, re-signing Drew is simply a "win now" move - paying him for the next 4-5 months doesn't impact Betts in any way. Boston's not likely to start his clock this season even if he keeps hitting in the high .300s.

I never said it had to do with his defense. Just read an article and I thought the gist of it was they were moving Betts to the OF because the path to the bigs is less littered for him than it is at 2B.

I cut Uggla. We have to ay him anyway so why pay for sub .200 and Ks? At this point, you pay to get rid of him. He's a nice guy and all but I don't feel sorry for millionaires. He'll be just fine.
