Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

The local govt basically said we don’t believe in law and order.

I think that’s the bigger takeaway here you may have missed for your outrage.
Even if I take it at face value that they were, this is the constitution and state’s rights at work. If the Federal government wants to come in and pursue ridiculously overzealous charges, the citizens have this right. The 2nd Amendment is brought up as a deterrent against a tyrannical government all the time. Now the 6th Amendment gets its day in the sun.

It also bears repeating that as a nation of laws, law and order is something for the courts to determine not for us individually to assert. If state and local governments are doing something illegal, the courts are the avenue to pursue that. We are the peanut gallery. Free to express our outrage. But the court system has to be determinative. Otherwise law and order is replaced by rule of the mob.

Covid and J6 did a really great job of showing that when conservatives say law and order, they just mean so far as it maintains their worldview. Suddenly complying with law enforcement and following the written law was optional. It’s like they think laws are some inherent right gifted solely to conservatives to keep the riffraff in line.

We see it on these boards, with outraged posters calling for dismissal of judges who make rulings they disagree with. If you think about it, that is the opposite of the rule of law.

Judges and juries undoubtedly make mistakes. The appellate process exists as a means of remedying those mistakes. And the process for selecting judges provides input via the political system. Beyond misconduct, judges should be insulated as much as possible from the howls of the mob.

Was that been the left was violating six ft and curfew orders by burning city blocks ?

Yeah / thst was the thing we learned during Covid and J6.

Doesn’t matter how “reasonable” some seem they will always have these outlandish assessments of what is actually happening.
