Big win for the good guys there. Maybe that might be the start of something and we hang onto first place another day.

Saw the replay on Schafer's walk. I've seen worse pitches called strikes and better pitches called balls, so I don't know if the Cards have too big of a gripe. If it had been called a strike, it would have been a pretty damn close to perfect pitch. I don't think there are too many LHHs who could have done anything with that pitch. Hope Matheny feels smart for walking the bases loaded.

"we hang onto first place another day." Team stays intact. They actually came back to win. Crossing fingers this will finally get them going. They have to snap out of this funk eventually. Maybe today begins that ten or twelve win streak we have been waiting for.

Wow. Looks like the umpiring in this series was questionable. That pitch to Schafer was amusing.

But I'll take it! Hopefully the bats are woken up now.

How in the world are we still in first place? The rest of the East has caught up to us, sure, but our team is very streaky and once it gets hot, these teams will wish it would have taken more advantage of our struggles.

Listened to this one on the radio in the car mostly. Few thoughts.

1. I was prepared to rip into the team for another disgraceful (this time, defense) performance, but a great job of them getting off the deck in the ninth. Hopefully it's a spark plug, but this team owes us about a month of great play. So I'll believe we've turned the corner when I see it.
2. Haven't seen the questionable pitch to Schafer, but I will continue to say it. The St. Louis Cardinals have no right to complain about any call ever again. The last three years at least, they have gotten the benefit of every call.
3. Gerald Laird absolutely can not catch any more games for us. He almost single-handily cost us the game with his bull****. He has got to go. I know Bethancourt can't hit that well, but at least we would have a competent backup, when Gattis needs a day off. If Laird keeps being allowed to play every fifth day, Fredi is an imbecile.
4. I like Don Sutton's analysis, but he is a completely brutal play-by-play man on the radio. It takes him FOREVER to get out of his mouth what happens on a play, and that's only part of it.

I was about to really tear into Fredi for playing Laird, Uggla and Schafer when we really needed a win, but Schafer played a huge part in the comeback. Regardless, Uggla doesn't need to step on the field for this team again. Play Pastor or call up Tommy.

Overall, pleased with the win, and I hope this gets us going.

My gut tells me that this win is as much of a red herring as the sweep of the Cubs. The offense has broken out of nothing; an umpire's strike zone is the difference in the game. The problems haven't changed, with the possible exception of Schafer getting a chance to play his way out of the league (again).

PS: BJ, ditch the glasses. Just close your eyes and swing hard in case...
