2025-2026 offseason thread

Say there is a lockout in 27, every player would lose a year off their contract right? So we'd have Acuna for just the 28 season.
Not sure how it'd work but you have to imagine there's gonna at least be a cap floor where you cant go over. Without even looking, their payroll is probably in the 350 range or more.

If there is a cap coming then those deferrals are gonna cripple the Dodgers at some point.
IF there's a cap, how would that come into effect for the Dodgers. Like how would all their highly paid players be on the team? Without looking, they're probably well in the 350 range. Like lets say you couldnt go over 250-270 payroll or less even.

The current contracts would almost have to be grand fathered in.

Thats way less than i thought. Rosenthal said it's in the last 3 seasons. So it's still in the 50+ range in the CBT.
I might be wrong but I believe the Dodgers are paying a 110% penalty with Tucker so he’s basically cost them $120m per year.

The economics of the sport are completely broken. No team, including the Yankees can afford to give a 5 WAR player that contract. The Dodgers are only able to do it because of Ohtani (and the deferrals scheme).

The integrity of the league is not healthy.

The talk with the next CBA will be rather rather interesting to say the least. I'm not sure of the penalties the Dodgers will face but i'm sure they can more than afford it.

Yeah this deal makes it even more obvious. The lower teams in the league are just a giant farm system at this point.

There's gotta be a cap at least, or otherwise it's basically pointless for the rest of the league if one team can just outspend everyone for anyone they want.

Im the biggest capitalist on this board and this sport is ruined... much like college football, I've just lost interest. Good for the players to make their money, but the sport sucks now

The Tucker deal absolutely blows me away. There’s been theorizing about what an impact player in his prime could command if he only sold his prime, and now we know. Those deals from the Mets and dodgers are nothing short of jaw dropping.
